Are we comfortable with sanding down our paint , and how big an area and how far?
They are not permanent coatings. Can be removed safely. They use some sort of alcohol solution to wipe off.

Not sure what this sanding part is about. ANY repaint requires sanding as prep.

There is soooooo much confusion regarding these coatings and paint protraction film ((PPF).

You can't just wipe it off, it's bonded within the paint molecules, but only a few microns. You are correct that any normal paint prep will remove it.

LexVan - Just curious - why are you re-applying every 2 years? I thought Opti-Coat had a 5 year warranty?

I like the paint correction every other year to make it near perfect again.

Please check out the PCA's latest video on ceramic coatings moderated by our president. You must sand the ceramic coating off prior to any repair commencing. There is no substitute.

You're in agreement with STG. ANY repainting requires sanding anyway.

Default Coatings

I have Optic Pro including over my front Expel wrap and am very pleased.
Suggest having the wheel barrels coated also. Cleaning is much easier
So far looks great on my black 911.

Perhaps? But repairs to the clear coat alone or pop out dents are in question. The more layers of permanence you create the more work and expense occurs. Keep it simple.

Gotcha - thanks. I understand that with Ceramic Pro, you have to do a yearly inspection which could require reapplication. I'm still trying to figure all of that out. I've read and read and read and am just trying to educate myself the best I can. I appreciate yours and others feedback and insight.

Speaking to someone at Suncoast, he mentioned that the Xpel clear bras may yellow after 2 years and it needs to be redone? True? I have an agate grey, would it noticeable?

My Miami Blue car was very difficult to polish for some reason, only the Porsche Hard Wax worked and the 3M polish i usually use on all my cars was tough to get on and off. The car had started getting significant swirl marks within a couple of months. I had it prepped and ceramic coated which made a huge difference in the gloss and shine. I stll polish it because of our very dusty climate, but the polish is very easy to get on and off now and keeps the surface slippery so that dust flies off and doesn't stick.

Yes, but where do you stop sanding away the ceramic coating to make new paint adhere?

I believe just polishing will remove the coating.
