911 R For Sale in SLC
I popped into my dealer this week and they have their fifth and final 911 R on the floor--all to 918 buyers. Three of the five have resold their cars, one is keeping his and this one is consigned to the dealer for sale. My SA told me it's the most expensive 911R in the country with a MSRP of $247k. The ask is $550k!

It's a novelty to see one (maybe not?) and the idea is great. A lightweight 911 with 500hp, 6-speed manual and no wings. But when I walked out and saw my car then drove off in it, I was happy (and for $400k+ less). Oh yeah, what's with the dealers displaying the cars with the spoiler up? Looks goofy.

The 911 R is the only car that could possibly tempt me away from my 991.1 manual, but not at that price!
Also, I saw a 997 911 GT2 RS at my local dealership for around $450,000. It looks like a fantastic car, but why would a 2011 911 sell for that much? Can't you buy one of the new GT3 RS with a manual for less?
When I first started looking at cars I saw the 993 cost more than the (then) new 996, but that made sense because of the switch from air to water cooled. so there was something missing in the new model. Since the new models now aren't PDK only, what do the older cars have that the new ones will not?
