I think he left the garage door open while he was away, and had a brief panic at the thought of damage / theft to his Porsche or his house being broken into. I'm sure his car has made a nice home for some critters, though.

I believe the "panic" is that the Porsche can't get out as the ceiling light is about to fall on top of it as it is blocked by the SUV (is that a Tahoe).

Hey, glad I could provide some fodder for speculation!

To provide a bit more info:

The panic came when I got home and noticed the 4-tube flourescent fixture hanging by one bolt, right above my new 991.

Yes, the stuff on the wall worries me, but this spot is not where the car will live. I have a an extended 3 car garage, but the "good" spot is still occupied by my Boxster S (for sale, let me know if you need a clean 2005 S).

Yes, I guess that's a lot of skis. But for 2 people, and over the years accumulating different types (groomed track wax, groomed track waxless, off-track, early/late season, skate, backcountry) adds up. And these are all Nordic skis. I gave up downhill since I too often ended up on the crutches.

The big red thing is a pulk, or sled to tow while skiing. This dates from long ago when we had little kids in Alaska. Since then, I have used the pulk to tow photo gear into the back country.

The wheel next to the car is part of my summer tire set. I still have winter tires on the car. I left things kinda disorganized since I plan to swap wheels in the next week or so.

I left the front wheel turned as a reminder that I parked close to the wall on the left, and if backed straight out, I would likely scrape the door edge.

I do indeed have auto garage door openers, but they are updated models that mount on the wall next to the door. The system does include a ceiling light, next to the dangling fluorescent fixture.

My SUV parked outside is a 3/4 ton Suburban that also dates from Alaska days. It might be old, but still goes (and goes just about anywhere, filled with or towing just about anything). It normally is not parked there, and that added to my panic/annoyance.

As for dead bodies, I have not even been in the crawl space since last summer.

Hmmm, all those are very good explanations but then you have had plenty of time to come up with each one.... and since I am sure they are all true you have certainly ruined a wonderful speculative thread!

Now in all sincerity ...
I am very glad you avoided a light catastrophe on the new car. I think that would have left a mark!
I've also learned a new work for scrabble - "pulk"
I hope you get to go back to the summers real soon.
I also have the wall mounted openers and love 'em.
It might be a good idea to stay out of the crawl space for a while till the decomposition finishes

Panic was indeed brief as OP has time to take pic prior to moving the car.

He has a Liftmaster 8500 which is a mounted on the wall attached to the shaft that the springs are mounted on. It is a direct drive unit. The light fixture next to the fluorescent that is hanging by a wire, is the one that comes with the Liftmaster. It receives its signal from the door opener module when you press the wall button or remote control. I have the same system. Smooth and quiet and doesn't take up ceiling space.

And since nobody asked, the large black panel on the ceiling above the garage door is the sliding screen door from the glass wall between my living room and deck. I hate looking through it all winter, but the size (5 x 10 ft) makes it a pain to store, and not get damaged. Unused ceiling space seemed like a good place.

Now to get the garage back in order...
