991 Engine Fire On Highway - Car Destroyed
My destroyed 2013 C4S nearly killed me for the last time over the 2016 Christmas holiday. The fire started in the engine compartment, only a few miles and a few minutes after the dealer did the 10k mi. service, which included an oil change, new filter and O-ring, and switched over to winter wheel set. This could have killed me and many others on the road. Forensic inspections of the burned out shell of a car revealed "non-native" fibers in the engine area - which, I'm told means they left a rag in there during the 10k service. When the car was brand new, it repeatedly and dangerously stalled on the road because of the defective crank sensor and spacer problem described by me and others in the thread "My C4S Died During Morning Commute" at the 6SpeedOnline website. After this fire, I asked for a new car, since, after too many near-death experiences caused by Porsche or the dealer, I just didn't think it was too much to ask. The dealer's insurance company only wants to pay their idea of the market value of the car, less a 4k "salvage" value for car that's now worth only a few hundred dollars if melted down. The dealer won't step in to make up the difference.

Sorry to hear. Hope you get a good resolution. Important thing >> you're not hurt.

Ask Ccapx who his lawyer is. You need a good one.

Not a very good introduction to the group.
I guess nice car would not be fitting in this situation.
I hope everything works out in your favor.
BTW this is from the factory workshop manual in the oil changes section:
"13. Make sure there are no tools, foreign objects or aids in the engine compartment!"
After getting some good representation I would go after the dealer, and the tech who worked on your car and then Porsche for failure to train adequately.

That is pretty unfortunate. I think it is a bit misleading to say your car nearly killed you. Its more like the dealer nearly killed you. Not sure how the insurance rules work in your state but I wonder if you can't just sue the dealer for your loss (certainly your insurance company will subrogate and sure the dealer) and try and improve you position.
In the end, the insurance company just needs to put you back to where you were - which is in a similarly equipped similar mileage same year Porsche 911. Unfortunately that never gets you exactly to where you were, but hopefully close enough so you can go out and buy an equivalent replacement.

sorry for your situation and glad you are ok.
so you had a 4 year old car destroyed (result of dealer negligence) and you want them to give you a new car and not happy with the value of your 4 year old car? I don't think that you will get a new car, but good luck.
Insurance is to cover what you lost not make you better than before. Who do you think should pay the difference between the value of your car before the fire and a new car? I doubt the dealership or mechanic will, Porsche won't. Life is too short, take the settlement and move on.
Curious why is it stopped in the middle of the road? I would think if you saw smoke you could pull over?

The prior near-death experiences are detailed at the 6SpeedOnline site thread mentioned in my original post above, which concern, among other events, the car turning off completely while at speed on the road.
