Default 991 GT3 RS Wrecked while at Speed Shop

Does anyone have any experience with this? Was getting fabspeed headers and tune put on the GT3 RS by local shop and owner test drove it into a building (not kidding). Car is a total, airbags deployed, front end destroyed. They are saying the right things but my concern is given the claim payout, insurance is going to slow roll. Just wondering if anyone has had this happen and how it went? Thanks.

OMG. Fortunately I have no experience with this sort of thing, but good luck. This is going to be complicated. What is the cost to replace this car? Is your insurance (or his) going to put you back to where you were? That means having another car in the same condition, without you paying an arm and a leg out of pocket. Please keep us updated.

Looks like comps in the US are $250-$270K. My guess is they will try to "fix" the car, but given the diminished value now that won't fly. Front clip, hood destroyed, airbags deployed. You can imagine the shop is mortified. Will keep you updated, sickining.

I would be livid. It is one reason why I do my own oil changes, spark plugs, etc. And now, one day I will do my own headers!

Good luck with this.

Insurance likely will pay in 48 hours trying to avoid a lawsuit..

Presumably your insurance will pay and then go after the shop insurer. Do you have Agreed Value Coverage or Diminished Value. Both could help. If you choose to have it fixed, you'd receive the car, repaired, plus $$$ for diminished value ($270k less value of repaired car). If Agreed Value, $270k and they keep the car. This happens much more than you'd think, even with the most careful and reliable shops.

Your insurance should pay you and then go after his insurance/him for reimbursement. My guess is 10-14 days to payout, unless you get into a dispute about value.

**** happens.

This. Had a shop take my car for a "test drive" and side swiped a van. Shop did absolutely nothing helpful, my insurance took care of everything. It did take longer than 14 days though because the shop wouldn't provide a statement and the guy driving my car mysteriously went on vacation....

I really don't like any of these places driving my car. If they installed headers and a tune, I am the best person to evaluate the performance difference, or to make sure everything went right. Not them. This post helps because now I will demand this or walk from any shop or service facility.

Default Pics and....

Defineltly have agreed value. My agent is tip toeing around it, we are pulling appraisals before going with them for a settlement offer. My worry is the foot dragging. Rob, I agree I am very hesitant to let anyone touch the car on a test drive, this person should have known better, they race porshes in SCCA and GT3. Turning off the traction control in these cars regardless when not on track is insane, but after it is headered and tuned up??? Agreed no test drives allowed.
