Default Data Plan

I had a three month 3GB trial for the dot-two's cell connection and received notification that the I was about out of data after ten weeks. So I re-upped on a 1 GB plan via the internet on Sunday evening. Monday I decided to drive the car into work. I was stuck in traffic for some time due to a windstorm knocking out traffic signals. When I got into work, I checked the account for fun. It said that I had used 268MB. I was not using navigation or anything other than Sirius. What's up with the data usage? How the heck is this getting used?

No replies?

1. No cell connection in your car?
2. Don't know how to check your usage?
3. Don't know how your car eats data?
4. Don't care.

I am concerned that I used 25% of my monthly data in one day but have no idea why.

I wish car tech would just tither off of cell phones and not need their own plan.

Not sure why so much data. Perhaps it downloaded an update or something? My 911.2 is not a daily driver but I have 7 days left on my monthly plan and so far have used 3.4 mb of my 1gb. That includes a number of short trips around town and one approx two hour drive. I did not use the nav but had the Google map screen on the whole time. I do not use Sat radio though. Also when I was using the initial data provided at purchase I did a week long trip and never got any data shortage messages. That was about 1500 miles of driving.

Google Earth (as opposed to Maps) eats data if you had it on or somehow is on by default.

Okay, that tells me that something is chewing up my data plan. Maybe it is Google Earth running in the background.

I use the installed Nav in my 991.2 with an AT&T Data Plan Tethered to my AT&T account. $10 additional/month acess charge and I share 20mb/month among devices I think.
Never get anywhere near 20 MB.
Uses Google Maps.
To use Apple Maps, you need an iPhone and USB cable hooked up to the USB port in the center arm rest.
Alternatively you can feed Data to your 991.2 by making your iPhone a 'Hot Spot' and giving your 991.2 the password to access your iPhone. It's in your manual on how to do this.
What iphone are you using and whose Data Plan did you subscribe to?
AT&T has an on-line sign up and that is the only way to add an AT&T Data Plan to your 991.2.
I found that using my iphone as a Hot Spot did not give me real time traffic, only NAV.-Richard

I drove to work this morning and turned the PCM off. It used 75mb. Something is wrong.

Sirius is Satellite and not cell phone data.

No, in signup I went as far as getting a code from the dealer to turn it on but left it there deciding I was not going to go for $10 a month beyond the trial anyway. When I feel the need for current traffic info I start up Waze. Try making sure Earth is not in your running task list in the smartphone.

I think in the google maps screen there are some icons to the right and one of them turns Google earth on and off. It's a little fuzzy as I have not done it in a long time. Also you look around the internet to try and find how much data sirius radio uses.

That would be zero.
