Default Where should I do my 1st maintenance?

My 991.1 GTS has reached 1 year (8k mi) so I guess it's time for its 1st maintenance (I did an oil change at around 5k mi).

I bought it from a dealer on the East coast (I'm in the south Bay Area, CA) so I'm not affiliated to any dealer so I'm pondering what to do: take it to a dealer, take to an indy Porsche specialist or do it myself? What are the Pros & Cons?

I've done the 5k mi oil change (mobil 1 5W-50) myself so no biggy for me, but I wonder if not taking it to a dealer could affect any resell value...?

Oh and if anyone has a recommendation for a dealer in the South BA, please let me know. I hear great things about Carlsen but it's a bit far for me (I'm in West san Jose).

For scheduled maintenance, take it to a dealer.

Just do another oil change in about 2,000 miles. Log your mileage, and save your oil and filter receipts.

At year #2 you need a brake fluid flush. DIY, dealership or indy shop. Doesn't matter.

+1

If you want to save money, do it yourself. The one year is just an oil change and visual inspection.

If money is of no consequence, take it to the dealer.

Hlvg, a good place to log maintenance for DIY'ers is the free MyCarFax app. Good job on the Mobil 5W50. Keep using it, and change it every 5,000 miles.

I have my indy do basically all my work - oil, brakes, tires, etc. I see no advantage to the dealer other than warranty work.

Full disclosure - I bought the maintenance plan for my car and I have taken it to the dealer for service.

As far as re-sale goes, I really don't think it matters much if you take it to a dealer, an indy or do it yourself as long as you keep a journal and the receipts for the next buyer.

One good thing about the dealer or indy is that they might, MIGHT see a problem that the average guy misses while doing a simple oil change.

Schedule it at C & C Repair, Monterey. The best.
Takes about an hour. Just enough time to walk to Municipal Wharf II and grab a beer and a bite at the Sandbar & Grill.

Even the one year service at 10K is just an oil change so I'm glad to see you are doing your own every 5K.

But get to know a dealer in your area by going in and letting them run your VIN to see if there are any service bulletins/computer updates that need to be done and get that scheduled.

Thank you all for the recommendations - Since it's just another oil change, I'm going to do it myself.
I need to look into a local dealer and will give mycarfax a shot.

While my cars have been under warranty I go to the dealer.

I too handle my own maintenance. A warranty issue came up recently, coolant expansion tank leak, and Livermore Porsche handled it. They were great to work with and did a fantastic job.

Why?

Why not do it every 2.5k? Or every 1k? Do you know something that the very conservative Porsche engineers do not?

Yes. But I'm going to keep it all to myself.

I would ask those BMW engineers why they have change the oil change interval from 15,000 to 7,500 miles. I guess they've realized that such a long interval was putting additional stress on their engines.

I also change my oil at 5000 miles myself based on my driving style and oil filter life. I'll take it to the dealer for the 10,000 miles service in order to get updates and computer reset. I believe in building a relationship with the stealership for any future issues that may arise. I have heard horror stories about Indy shops screwing up and not taking responsibility. I feel much better knowing if Murphy's Law comes my way at least I have a better chance to reach a solution with Porsche North America than with a small Indy shop.
