Default PCM Overheating

One minute after I left the house Saturday, a message popped up on my PCM displaying "Overheating" with the only option to press the OK text. The PCM then restarted itself. This happened two more times before I got to my destination. Called the dealer who had never heard of it before. Just wondering if anyone here has had the same experience.

Never heard of it... Interesting that the PCM unit would tell you it is overheating vs just overheat and reboot or shut-down. If only it would tell you "why"!

It would make too much "sense" for auto-manufacturers to move past Step 1 of the data analytics curve:
1. Diagnostic - "I'm failing"
2. Descriptive - "I'm failing and here is why"
3. Predictive - "I think I'm gong to fail"
4. Prescriptive - "I think I'm going to fail and here is what you should do about it"

Control results in add'l earnings so forget about #2. Sadly most people wouldn't heed 3 and 4 until an actual failure, at which point it would be time to visit to the dealer.

I recently had this happen to my PCM, twice in the last 2 months. What is most odd is that it happened when it was cold outside, not when you would expect there to be an overheating issue. My PCM has also spontaneously reset itself at least 5-6 other times, without the overheating message. I have a scheduled maintenance appointment next month and will have it looked at then. If the dealer gives me any good information, I'll update here.

Yeah, this is one of my favorite movies, too. "Just a moment.... just a moment... I've just picked up a fault in the PCM unit. It's going to go 100% failure within 72 hours. I suggest replacing it pre-emptively at a cost of US $3,500.00."

did you ever figure this out? Has happened twice to me. On a cool day after just starting up. Have appt in a week. First time they said there were some corrupted files when the dealer did a software update. Mine will reboot after shutdown and then appears fine. Very random

This happened to me a while back. In my case, it also wouldn't load maps nor the radio. It turned out to be a software glitch that got fixed with an update. Try taking it in and asking them to update it!

I told my SA, but obviously couldn't recreate it. I don't know if they checked the software or not, but it hasn't happened again since.

As I mentioned, they did do an update the first time, noticed some corrupted files but now a few months later it came back. I have another dealer appointment in 1.5 weeks. I was just curious if it was a sign the PCM was going bad. I want this resolved while under warranty because that would be expensive. It's very random and does not happen often. I did take a pic of the msg for the dealer to see.

Did you ever get this issue resolved?? I just had the same issue on my 2013 C4S, it rebooted and worked fine after that.

I was still under warranty, the dealer replaced the PCM a couple times. I then had other PCM issues where I could not get radio audio. They replaced the amplifier under the seat and that seemed to fix that.
