Funny how on certain cars you can pretty much pee in the tank and it will run but others will not... My wife's ML 350 will run like crap and throw a code if 93 is not used.

I don't think you know what you're talking about here. CostCo only sells gasoline with TopTier certification. In the likely home state of the new 991 member you chose to accost, 92 octane IS the rating that is normally found for premium. (They sell 93 here in Texas)

There are entire states (california comes to mind) that only offer 91 as top octane. Pretty sure most of the ML350 do not throw codes there. You should have your knock sensor checked, or maybe had bad gas overall ;-)

Higher octane is just resistance to premature...detonation ;-) I had an old 911 with a low compression motor (60s model) that ran like crap on 93 but fantastic on 87... Anyway - most gas comes from the same sources, all that changes is additives. And any 91+ octane will work fine on a modern 911. If we're gonna be particular about gasoline I wish we'd stop subsidizing corn farmers and cutting our gas with 10% ethanol. My oldies' fuel lines, pumps, distributors don't like it.

Remember Gulf Gas Stations? This was taken in the summer when I was at Area 27 for a track day (Oliver, BC).

Yeah I figured out what the problem was some time ago... She uses the grocery store gas station since she gets discount points from shopping. Worst gas ever.

Default September 2017 in Zell am See, Austria

My wife and I had picked up our new BMW 440i at BMW Welt in Munich two days before and decided to get gas before leaving Zell am See on the way to Italy over the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse. While filling the up the BMW, I noticed this 997, very similar to my own back in the States but in a paint color that I had never seen before. I talked with the owner who,, while very cordial, never introduced himself and declined to have his photo taken with the car. But he did tell me that he had purchased the car from Dr. Wolfgang Porsche using Porsche Zentrum Zell am See as an intermediary. Dr. Porsche had originally commissioned the car in this unique paint color and specified that this color was not to be made available for customer cars or for production in general. Note the license plate number.
