Shame it'll be near impossible to get an allocation.

All moot points though, as the allocations are going to be near impossible to come by unless one is already high on a dealer list.
What interested me most buried in that article are the comments that there is a GT4 RS coming with a 430ish hp 4 liter motor. Give it a PDK-S and I'd be very interested in that car.

A 991.2 manual GTS or a manual GT3, which one would you guys pick?

I think the GT3 is the much stronger choice, but GTS could be better for some, depending on how you will use the car (4-seater, more power at high altitude, softer suspension, more ground clearance) and how sensitive you are to depreciation (GT3 will have more retained value).

I used to be a manual transmission snob until I drove the PDK-S. It's certainly a precision tool and I no longer "look down" on Porsches without 3 pedals.
Although I'll be ordering a 6MT, would easily go PDK-S if I planned on regular track and/or daily driver duty.
It's great that Porsche is addressing the total 991R market, which is likely multiple times larger than 991, that's been begging for greater feel, precision and a manual transmission.

I doubt anyone who wants a GT3 will miss out because of constrained supply. They are still delivering RS's way past the point where the internet and dealers said there'd be no more built. I could have ordered one several months ago but with a minimal premium which someone paid I'm sure. I think .1GT3 values are going to slide once dealers and speculators have new fodder to gouge on. However once the first frenzy by the MT starved subsides and production arcs over 2000 units things will return to a more reasonable equilibrium. Having a dealer relationship is essential if you want in on the ground floor.

For me a GTS is a very nice car (I may well order one) but ultimately it's still a 3 litre Carrera (I already have a .2 4S coming). At the same time I don't like wings on 911s, and I'm happy to trade some high speed downforce for that.
I'm weird like that, I also like the idea of dark brown leather!
I'd also do manual, happy to row. If Porsche wants to sell me a configured 911R at MSRP or a little above, sign me up.
