Michelin Pilot Sport 4S

The back tires, on the other hand, are from 2015 (they were replaced by the garage who sold the car to me last year, prior the sale).
Thus I would say the difference in grip between front and back is horrendous. My assumption is therefore that this grip gap is larger now than if I replaced the front tires by PS4S, while keeping the back ones in PS2. But maybe I'm wrong, hence my initial post...

If you value your life, change those darn tires man. And that's especially true if you like to push the car (even a little). Tires over 5 years old are crap, even if they look new. And yours are probably much older than that. Remember what happened to Rodas (and Walker)? It was attributed to old tires. And he was a darn good driver... who should have known better. Rubber degrade with age, and turns what is a very forgivable tire when new, into one that lets go all of a sudden without a hint of doing so. If you want to skimp on 2 tires, it's your life. Good luck.

To anticipate some questions that the last message may raise: The reason why I'm considering replacing them with PS4S rather than stick to PS2 is twofold:
1. Because then when the back tires are done, I'd replace them with PS4S and therefore would end up with PS4S on the four corners. Which I believe is better than PS2, as established by this thread and the various reviews and tests I read.
2. PS2 in 235/35 starts to be difficult to find, they're not available in my go-to online shops (not the tire rack, I'm not in the US). Wouldn't be surprised that by the time I have to replace the back tires, PS2 in 305 isn't available anymore. And I'd end up with PS4S in the back and PS2 in the front.

Nope. PS2s are very old tires. Check the 4-number DOT production code (first 2 numbers denote week, and last 2 year of production) on your 'almost new' tires, and most likely they're over 5 years old. They're not going to blow up on you, but even if they look almost new, rubber is significantly degraded already. If you use the car to putt around, then maybe keep them (although you'd have diminished braking distances as a result). But if you push the car at all, I wouldn't. Just get a full new set of tires. That way, your car will always have the grip and (safe) handling it was designed to have. Good luck.

Sorry if I wasn't clear: When I said above they are from 2015, I meant it based on that 4-number DOT production code. They were fitted on the car in march 2016, and got about 3000 miles since then.

It looks like we are the only ones who are thinking about Continentals, in a sea of Michelin fans. For some reason, I seem to like this brand. Maybe because of prior experiences in a Boxster and a couple of Jeeps. They seem to be more forgiving for daily driving in rough roads. I guess, I'll wait for some real world comparison reviews

Same, but I'll admit its interesting, the 2018 GTS configurator now has the car wearing michelins, which you can see clearly on the sidewall...now I know porsche developed the car with pirelli but thats strange...
