1st Post - Brake Pad Question
I purchased a 2013 base Cab 32k miles, in November before the weather turned here in Chicago and during the PPI I was told the brake pads were at 30% and need to be replaced. They indicated that if I change them now I can get away with pads only and not have to do rotors. Does that sound reasonable? Should I just wait for the indicator light? I have talked with a few other people and get differing opinions and since this is my first pcar I thought I would reach out here for information. Thanks in advance.

Couple questions back:
At 32K miles the stock pads are likely due if the car has seen spirited driving, but first hand second opinions are a good thing also!
Enjoy your new car!
- Who said they need to be replaced?
- Was the car tracked?
- Are there cracks running from cross-drilled rotor holes?
- If so, how long?

Wonder why change at 30%?
I'm going to wait until 0% myself unless I'm going to do a track day or driving event.
BTW I'm on the same brake pads and rotors and my car is turning 60K miles here in a week or two.

I had to replace my pads and rotors on my 981 at 29k miles. Brake sensor light came on etc.
I have never tracked my car but there was an obvious lip on the front rotors.
I do drive pretty hard on the country roads in PA so I was not surprised. On dry pavement, I will sometimes come into a turn with the ABS engaged. lol.
You got away pretty light with only pads needed to be replaced.

@1Gunner, The local Porsche dealer who did the PPI is the one suggesting pads only before needing pads & rotors. I don't know 100% if it has been tracked before but my guess is no. No signs of cracks on the rotors.

Personally, when I get a pre-owned car then I like to get everything put back up to new so the car is as best as it can be. Is it mechanically necessary? Not always. But it makes me feel better. I take pride in it. A car is a big investment and I like to take care of them.
Full disclosure, I do all of this kind of maintenance myself. Oil and filter, air filters, brake pads/rotors, etc. It's all really very easy to DIY. I admit I wouldn't feel as good about it all if I had to pay a fortune at a dealer. But I do like my stuff to be in top form and I would probably do it.

if they were original pads, probably had 30% left, at 32k mi yes they need changing. unless the rotors were damaged they should be ok for 10-20k more.
the dealer said they were ok so I would put new pads.

I just changed my pads out for low dust pads at 28000 miles. the originals were probably about 30% left, and there was just a slight lip on the rotors. I went with just pads. everything looks fine.

At 18,xxx miles removed the calipers to be powder coated and WIT will be changing the brake fluid. Had approx 60% left on the fronts and 40% on the rears. Will be installing new Centric low dust pads later in the week after the calipers come back. Rotors had a small lip and had them turned for only $20. T
