991.2 S vs 991.2 GTS

Back to the thread topic: this morning my eBay notice says there are 4 new 991.1s on eBay. Often, there are none, sometimes one, and seldom two new ones. My recollection is never seeing more that two new on the same day. Today there are four. Any connection to the 991.2 GTS announcement and availability in the PCNA Configurator??? Hmm...

So I am going to order a new 991.2 next year and have been playing with the configurator. Now that the GTS is on it I decided to configure a GTS to match my S.
Right now, to order the S that I want I am at $131,905.
If I build a GTS the same way it comes out to $142,250. (No Alcantera No GTS interior, No SD exterior)
For the extra $10,345 I get CL wheels (which I don't really want), CF interior trim, black exhaust tips, a GTS sticker on the door, 30 more HP, and wider hips.
If I add the CF trim to the S the price difference is $8,355 or $1990 less which is exactly what the CF trim costs. So even though the CF trim is included in the GTS package, Porsche is not discounting it.
Even the Sport Design exterior is not included with the GTS, it cost an additional $1500 if you want those bumper covers and rear.
Fun little comparison, of course YMMV depending on options.

Sportdesign mirrors are also standard.
The GTS defaults to have upgraded interior trim. You get a $900 option for free and only pay $1000 for the previously $2000 options. And by default the brushed aluminium trim in the GTS is black.
The targa has a black bow which as far as I can see looks awesome, especially if you were to combine it with the black brushed aluminium interior trim.
There is a whole bunch of stuff they won't sell you with the GTS:
- carmine red instruments
- altantara steering wheel and shifter unless you get the full GTS interior package
- regular front bumper
- wood. Not a loss for the trim, but I always had a sweet spot for a wood shift ****
The carbon fiber steering wheel has the larger (non-GT) diameter, so it isn't really that great an alternative to the Alcantara wheel.

Those Turbo S wheels cover up too much of the brakes for my taste. If you put the PCCBs you probably want some wheels with shallower spokes.
IMHO they would always be an option for black wheels with a polished lip. The 5-spoke 20" "Carrera Classic" from the 991.2 look like a good offer for a GTS, no?

Yours is a good example why, when a fine auto is damaged, the owner should never sign off until all repairs are complete to the owner's satisfaction. And the owner must also fight to be compensated for the diminished value which inevitable follows a collision repair that is reported to CarFax, Autochek, etc. Sometimes, grabbing your neck (the pain!) when you get out of your car after being hit is the only way to get enough leverage to make the other party and insurer want to fully compensate you for damage to your fine auto.
As for signing off after it's all good, easier said than done. Rattles can take time to make themselves known. They can be intermittent, and depend upon weather conditions and top up or top down. As for cosmetics, I studied medicine, not auto body shop, so it took a trained eye to point out a few subpar auto-related repair items to me. What's done is done. Car gone bye bye. New rule:. Once car is in accident, it's gone, diminished value or not.

Got diminished value, thank goodness. That was a fun 6 months of headaches and arguments!

From everything I've read and heard, the Corvette Grand Sport is a lot more fun than driving a 991.2. It's the only Corvette that gets me thinking about one, particularly given the price point.

Here are a couple more items to ponder. My loaded manual tranny 2015 C2S was $124.2k MSRP, with all the options I wanted. My dream 2018 991.2 GTS, better equipped than what I'm driving, is $138.98k. Only $14.7k more than my C2S 3 years older, with fewer goodies. 13% more HP and 25% more torque grunt. And you get the Aerocup/Sport Design aero treatment that is extra on the 991.1 That makes the 2018 GTS a buy, ASSUMING that one likes the high-boost twin turbo 3 liter flat six making 150 HP/L. I prefer the 430 HP NA 3.8 991.1. But those GTS are the 2015s and 2016s, typically with 10k-20k miles on the clock and in the $115k-$120k range for nice ones. That won't fly with me. My 2015 C2S has 4800 miles on it, so maybe I'm biased against a used .1 GTS with 15k miles on it, is only $15-20k less than that new .2 GTS with all the options I want. So that is a factor I would have to consider...

Rear seats are doable in a GT3, someone on this forum did it.
I went with GTS precisely for the kids reason, played with the idea of rear seats in GT3 but at the end of the day I found it a bit ridiculous rolling in a GT3 picking kids from school. Plus was really looking for MT, the idea may come to fore front if .2 GT3 is offered with the new 6 speed.

Rear seats were easier in the 997 - IIRC in the 991.1 you'd have to weld a tab in for the seat belts or something like that before you buy and install all the hardware. The biggest question was whether your insurance company will play ball. Mine would but I could see a lot of them saying no to that. This is the point where most said get a GTS.
