Costco eh? nice! I'm a member as well and in the market for some new tires. Mind if I ask how much you paid for each?

The rears were $299 and the fronts were $270 and then another $70 off instant rebate from michelin. It was about 1200 all in tax and mounting disposal fee. As long as they don't ruin the wheels. I asked the person there and they said they could do it no problem. I guess I could take them to porsche and have them mounted there. Is there a reason why costs might be an issue?

If you take them to Porsche you will void the Costco warranty.

Thats a thought too. I like the idea of the road hazard warranty. If I got them at porsche would I get a warranty at no extra cost and would it be honored at all porsche dealers?

The PSS were launched in 2010. The PS4S is the successor tire. I would give them a month to see if they launch as scheduled. I was at Discount Tire reshodding our Mercedes last week and the PS4S is already in their system even though inventory level is zero.

BTW if you go for PSS then buy the Ferrari homologated version. It's the best.

Those are great prices. I've never purchased tires from Costco, but some low cost dealers offer low prices on older tires. For peace of mind, I'd check the build date on the tires.

Make sure you are there to watch them install the tires at Costco - they are good people but most of their tire mounting is Toyota and Honda

Actually, I've read that it's better NOT to get the Ferrari version of MPSS. The tread depth is shallower, and I'm told the sidewalls are less flexible. I got "regular" MPSS for my 991 turbo, and think they're significantly better than the OEM P-Zeros that came on my car, but I have not tried any of the newer Porsche spec P-Zeros.

I'm not thinking "eeking the last millimeter of ultra-high performance out of my new tires" is really the metric being considered with this purchase.

Agree. This is how I was advised by Damon at The Tire Rack.

Here's another vote for replacing the tires before the tread is fully worn if they are aged or heat cycled. My 991.1S came with OEM Pirelli's which were original in the front but had a lot of tread left at 9K miles. Their date code was 2012, so the tires were approximately four years old. I was not too happy with the handling, so I replaced the front tires early. The handling, noise levels, and ride quality were all much improved.

I'm planning to get the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S when they become available. I read that they will be available in in January in Europe and March in the United States. I've had many sets of PSS since 2011 and am eager to see the progress Michelin has made since then.

Mine will be in on Wednesday. I will post my impressions about the tires and Costco when I can. Impressions will not be based on driving in warm conditions though.
