Default 32K Mile 2014 Targa Report

I bought this car August 2015 with 14k miles. Today I'm over 32K miles.

Defect-related issues I've had corrected:

1. Many rattles (see https://rennlist.com/forums/991/9155...es-solved.html)
2. A washer fluid hose that snapped under the hood unexpectedly
3. Hands broke off on the sport chrono clock, replaced

Damage-related issues I've had corrected:

1. My Targa bar was scratched. I purchased a new part and had my new dealer install it. It looks perfect now and I still have the old part if anyone needs it? The scratch is subtle, but bothered me.
2. A flat tire
3. Refinished a wheel that NTB gouged to hell during #2

Today I'm over 32k miles and I've taken her in for warranty service for two issues:

1. Both door panels exhibiting the "peeling/warping" issue
2. A rattle from the instrument panel which may be the gas tank pad issue. I mentioned it to the service advisor and we'll see.

The glass roof still squeaks and creaks, but it's liveable to me. It's usually not bad, and it often goes away with temperature changes.

The instrument cluster rattle is the only one outstanding and if it gets quieted down I am gruntled and ready to live with this car for the long haul.

I have never seen anyone use the word gruntled without the dis- prefix. Despite the meaning being obvious...

Along with 'ept', and 'parage', presumably meaning 'possessed of coordination or talent', and 'to speak of in a kind, or complimentary fashion'.

Derek - excellent report. I love to read these, and hear what it's like for people to live with their cars.

On words lacking their accustomed negating prefixes, there's this funny short piece in The New Yorker. I recall it was read on the Car Talk radio show many years ago.

Let's have some fun with this one!

I bought my '13 Carrera in October of 2015 with 16k miles. I now have 43k miles on it. Here is a list of the problems I've had.
  1. A vacuum solenoid had to be replaced.
  2. A sensor in the gas tank was giving an error reading. No repair indicated.
  3. The AC motor stopped working. They rebooted the system and it started back. No problems since.
  4. A diagnosis module in the fuel system had to be replaced.
  5. The plastic "hinge" thing in both doors had to be replaced due to squeaking.
  6. The symposer started making a slight buzzing noise around 7,500rpm, but the dealer never did anything about that.
  7. The passengers side mirror has a problem returning to the normal position after reversing. It'll go back 90% of the way, but I have to hit the memory button for it go get back to it's actual normal position. It was fixed once, but now it's acting up again.
  8. I had an "Engine Control Fault" about a week ago, but it went off within a few days. Still haven't taken it to the dealer to get it checked out.

I think that's everything. Other than the recent "Engine Control Fault," I've not had an actual error message since there were 21k miles on the car.

EDIT: Correct 2014 to 2015

I'll play...

My 13' Carrera manual has had the following warranty work done at 40,000kms/24,854 miles:

1. Defective Horn (warranty replacement)
2. Defective Porsche Entry and Drive (drivers side) door handle. Was sending intermittent signals to the mother board and beeping every 2 mins (Porsche replaced both drivers and passengers side under warranty)
3. Defective Steering Boot/Box (warranty replaced). Kept hearing road noise and could actually hear my brake calipers apply on the rotors under braking. Porsche tech said it was the weirdest warranty part he's seen since...

Otherwise the car has been a great car. No rattles for a 4+ year old car that I bought Porsche Pre-Owned with CPO.

My 12.5 C2S Cab Bought 1 year ago next week at 1,200 miles. Has 6,500 now. 137K MSRP paid 80K with CPO. Paid Premium for low mile example with 99% how I would have buit.

1. HVAC Screen/unit replaced under warranty
2. Seatbelt installed with a twist
3. Passenger window symptom of battery needing replaced

The car has no rattles and has been great. The paint is perfect [post correction] with full condom and door trim plastic. The exhaust is nirvana and hoping to get even better in the spring with a plenum and BMC filters.

Great thread. OP, it's because of your targa bar scratch experience, and the resultant cost of replacement, that I wrapped my targa bar. Thank you for the heads up.

2014 C2S with 15k on clock, bought last Dec w CPO. She had everything on her as I would have ordered. With added bonus of AeroCup package. Now a year later 24k and nothing to report. My first P car and I smile at her everything I look back. I might be crazy but I think she smiles back!

My '17 Targa has no rattles. Your issues may be one of the downsides of getting the first model year.

My first 2012.5 991S, bought two years old with 7200 miles, sold it two years later and 19k miles:

All warranty work - sold it two months after it went out of original factory warranty but truthfully all these problems were found and taken care of in the first six months I had it - the other 18 months were trouble-free.
1. Previous owner had warranty work done for squeaks
2. Heater failed - COV replaced
3. PSE failed - COV replaced
4. Right engine fan failed - replaced
5. Still squeaked/rattled a little in the back but I ignored it.

Now on my second 991S, a 2013 I bought with 13k miles - four months later and I have nearly 16k miles. Zero warranty repairs. No squeaks or rattles. I will be taking it in, however, when it warms up to possibly replace the taillights for de-lamination problem, though.

Most likely...a friend has one of the first into Canada and it rattles like mad. He doesn't often drive it with the top closed so he's not too bothered...
