How many 991s with power kit?
Hello, been lurking for awhile but now have a question I can't seem to answer via Rennlist search or Google. I was wondering if anyone has any idea how many 991s have the X51 Power Kit option? I'm thinking it's a pretty rare build. My buddy and I are considering moving from our classic 911s to the 21st century and I'm wondering if it's worth my time to look for this option on a car or if I'm seeking the proverbial white whale. We're going to be looking for C4Ss for the Minnesota climate.
I see Suncoast Porsche has a deal on the kit - $11K. One option would be to buy the car I want have it installed but I'd feel more comfortable knowing it had been installed by the factory.
Thanks much.

Don't know the answer to the question.
But how about considering the GTS which would include this within the base price.
There is someone on this forum who traded his Carrera S I believe for a very well optioned S with the power kit and the MSRP was about 170K+.
See this thread for more info:

Have you driven one with the power kit? It's not a huge difference in most cases--I believe that down low it actually has less torque than without. You need to get up in the RPMs to benefit from it. So on its own I don't think it's a key feature to look for.
As the others suggested, look for a GTS. Not easy to find, but probably easier than a C4 with powerkit, and the whole GTS package makes a lot more sense.
There is another thread here was discussing adding the powerkit after and it seemed like that was a bad path to take. The cost of the kit plus install was crazy, and you're left with something not done at the factory. The premium for a GTS would cover that cost plus include more perks from the GTS, and you wouldn't take a bath if you ever wanted to sell the Frankenstein result of rolling your own.
Someone did the numbers and it came out to about 25% of GTS cars were 4. Be patient and wait for cars to come off lease, some of them are bound to. It's just a bit early since most leases are 3 years and the GTS started in 2015.

If you like the 4GTS, I see 4 used ones and 1 new one on cars.com, perhaps the search engine can help you find the power kit car you like. Good Luck!

Yes, I went from a 991.1S to another 991.1S w/powerkit and I love it! My humble seat of the pants can feel the difference above 3k-4k RPM and the exhaust note (both had PSE) also seems a little deeper. I didn't move to another 991.1S exclusively because of the powerkit but rather because of the collection of options my current car has (insanely loaded, I couldn't be happier!).
As other posters have suggested, getting a GTS is the easiest way to locate a powerkit car. In '13, the GTS wasn't available yet so you will most likely find more powerkit cars in that model year. It is probably a VERY rare option for non-GTS cars. I actually emailed PCNA to see if I could find out how many were produced. Sadly, they replied that they don't track production numbers (which is probably BS but apparently they don't publicly share them at any rate).
I've never come across a GTS that I would prefer over my car (except maybe the PCA 60th Anniversary Club Coupe). That being said, if I was looking today for a powerkit car, I would definitely start looking at GTS's or do a search for '13 991.1S's with the powerkit.
I would however NOT buy the powerkit from Suncoast and have it installed - simply too expensive. I think the better value play would be to find a nicely cared for 991.1S or GTS with the powerkit already on it.
Cheers!

Frankly, it's a tough sell based on the performance vs. the price.
Look at 996TTs for sale at any given time. You'll see a statistically significant number with X50 (or in 2004/2005 they were called Turbo S if they had powerkit.) So why so many more X50s than X51s, when the price was, iirc, $17,800? MSRP on 996 Turbo was 115,000, effectively about the same as a 911S today. When I bought a 996TT, NOT getting X50 wasn't even a consideration.
Look what X50 delivered: 50hp and 50 lb.-ft of torque. For the same price X51 delivers 30hp and 0 torque. Yes, the X50 was a tad more expensive than X51 is today, and we're talking 2002 dollars vs 2012-14 dollars (I assume nobody, as in zero, people ordered X51 in an S in 2015-16). But as a percent of MSRP it's about the same cost X50 vs X51.
Taking torque from 415 to 467 is a very real, very discernible, very visceral difference. You were effectively getting the GT2 turbos, intercoolers and software in an AWD Turbo, for a tiny fraction of the GT2 cost.
But leaving torque the same and giving 30 more hp up in the top of the range, while nice to have, isn't life-changing like it was on the Turbo.
