Crap these have been bad forever. I replaced mine twice in my 1988. 991…not yet. Weird like said previously, pretty expensive car for such a part to fail given the short amount of time.
My fronts are weak as water. You can barely touch the frunk lid and it starts to drop. 2012 model.

Yes, I've replaced both rear and front. When strong, the shocks will assist the hood prop up to the top after you lift up to a certain point. When weak, you'll find out how painful it is to have latch drop down on your head.
I replaced the engine bay struts earlier this year, 2015 GTS. What gets me is that those were used exactly 5 times for the oil changes and crapped out.

Apologies for MacGyvering up this thread on the failing struts but I wanted to share my workaround for unencumbered access for routine maintenance when the struts fail. Replace with a temporarily working pair? Maybe, when I overcome my aversion to buying crappy stuff.
I just picked up some from Amazon for $20 with a 1 year warranty. I hope it last longer than what you guys are saying, for something that is used so seldomly.
Here is the OEM length information: OEM P/N: 99151255100 Extended Length: 6.61 Inches; Compressed Length: 4.96 Inches; Stroke Length: 1.65 Inches
Dealer replaced mine twice already under warranty (MY2014) . It seems it would fail every three years. I do open it once every two weeks after I washed my car.
