Centerlock Wheels is Absurd idea for road cars

The issue for me is that Porsche does not make a real great looking wheel, centre lock or standard.
Centre lock hubs limit the aftermarket wheel selection.
As far as safety...I believe this is a non-issue, both applications are safe.

I love the CL wheels. I remember back in the day when the first thing one would do is change out there wheels in favor of an aftermarket alternative. Those days are gone and I am happy that porsche has caught up with the times and sells a complete product. Same goes for the stereo system. Factory optioned stereo systems are designed so well these days that no one need touch them.

It was the consensus of well respected owners of PCar service/mod shops that inspected the wreck at the track. Not to mention that several drivers who were behind the incident car saw the wheel separate from the car before the wreck.
Every GT3 in my club converted after that incident. Since this was several years ago, I am told the Porsche changed the design. Those locks scare me to death.

Doubt as you wish, the 5 lugs were stripped right off the studs. The studs were smooth with no thread left on them. I don't think how they were torqued is a factor. It seems like straight forward metal fatigue but I am no engineer.

Clearly one ought not venture onto the track with either 5-lug OR centerlock wheels. I think F250s and up use 8-lugs. Anybody seen one of those lose a wheel on track?
No? Nobody?
Okay, it's anecdotally settled then.

I am glad I opted for 5 lug on my GTS as I have already had to take them off once far from a dealer to fix a flat. I don't they look too awful though the CLs look a little better. I was thinking about swapping them for HREs at some point and wonder if anyone has thoughts on these.

fact 1
serious trackers of 7.2 gt3's all go to 5 lug - 1 gt3 folks don't really have a choice
fact 2
cl's, when they fail at speed, being single pt connection, causes catastrophic damage to the car (not to say that doesn't happen if a 5-lug system fails, but that is a shared load situation there across the 5 connection pts)
conclusion
therefore when running cl on track for extended use, one must be extra vigilant

Love my CL like the clean look. And yes I have changed a left rear tire, when it went flat. I do not track the car, but certainly see where that would be more of a problem. Buying the $400 torque that can go to 450 ft/lbs was my issue. I was within 500 ft of my house when I got the TPMS warning. If I was on the road call Porsche roadside would be my answer.

Very interesting responses. It is great that we all have choices and glad Porsche offers them to us. Sometimes I feel way too many options but that is why it makes the cars extra special.
Obviously, CL users will prefer CL and 5 Lug users will prefer 5 Lug.
I will have to go with 5 Lug for me as I will change tires (need winter tires). I just love classic sport design tires but my need to change tires based on season is a priority.

The real question is... if Porsche offered $10k off if take 5 lug, who would would do? I might would have. Love my CL's. But sure are some sweet aftermarket wheels out there...
Conversely, maybe Porsche would say when you spend the money on a GTS, they throw in the CL's for free. In which case, taking the gift seems wise if able (aka don't need snow tires)

I have never read that Center lock wheels have any advantage other than a different look, quicker to change in a race pit situation.
Is it possible they can be designed a little lighter because the load can be spread around the inner part of the wheel with less alloy than needed for a 5 lug center?
