Squeaky door hinge -- lube or fix?
#16
See my recent thread (and fix) on this. You gotta take the plastic piece off the door where the check strap inserts, and blast the mechanism the check strap slides into with some white lithium grease. Get a can with the red straw, and get the straw right into the mechanism.

My next step, I guess. I have put some of that lithium grease spray on the composite strap and worked the doors back and forth. Of course today is much cooler than yesterday and the creak is down to something barely audible; can't tell if the grease worked. Any gotchas with taking the plastic cover off that opening?

I did that too, and it didn't work. But getting the red straw directly into the strap receiver in the door, top and bottom, did the trick. The plastic cover just pops off, no tools necessary.

Anything new on this thread? Lithium grease did not do the trick for me. Made a bit of a mess but still squeaky... Sounds very much like rusty Lada doors and un-porsche-like. Out of warranty... Was wondering if anyone came up with another trick or replaced the check strap themselves ?

First time I had this issue the dealer fixed it under warranty (replaced nubs???) but it was not the metal hinge, it was the other door brake thing. The second time it happened I used white lithium grease and squirted it into the door where I could hear the squeak. Never heard the squeak ever again.

Blasting lithium grease from a can directly inside -- as Churchill suggested above -- did do the trick for me. At least well enough to stop paying attention to the issue.

wd40
I used wd 40 in the door. It worked. That was a year ago.

Driver's door had a much more pronounced creak and passenger had some. Passenger worked like a charm with a few squirts but after spraying grease into the driver's side for a good 20 min, no luck :X

I did a recent post on how to access the full strap. However the best course of action is to replace the plastic door strap. Supposedly only $50ish a side and not a crazy install.

i did it too, may not be as good but feel free to read, it is Free :-) I did the door check straps at the same time as the deflector triangle.
