Issues with 991.2 base MT?
I'm thinking of ordering a base 991.2 with MT. All I read seems positive and, having driven one, can say I noticed zero turbo lag and found the car to be plenty fast for my uses.
Has anyone had any "issues" with the .2, especially the power train?
Also, does anyone have a date when the model year will change to '18s? I'm on a slow roll, since I won't have any use for the car until April or so at this point.
Thanks.

Its a gem, I was about to get one and then drove a GT4 on the lot and I went with the GT4, if I was looking for more of a DD car I would have stuck with the C2MT - amazing package from Porsche. Get them while you can says my dealer.

It isn't a limited model in any way.

You are probably talking about when the next model year cars become available in the US. Usually the new model year allocations become available in late March for an early June build and August/September delivery (impacted by long European holidays). For example, I order a 2014 in March 2013 with a June build and picked it up in early July as part of European Delivery. It arrived back in the states at the end of August.
I am doing the same thing the OP is doing and I have called around to about 6 dealers. They don't know for sure but are expecting the same scenario. March allocation with June build for a 2018.

The Porsche reps I've read don't seem to give the MT unequivocal, enthusiastic support. Rather, when discussing it's future, they seem to always include some qualifiers. No such thing for the PDK.
IMO, The posters comment may have a lot of truth in it.

I have the 991.2 Base with PDK. So far so good. Amazing car and extremely fast. The only problem I've had so far was the original programing done by the dealer during the delivery process but after that was corrected, haven't had any problems.
Regarding lag.... it is there at low speeds/low rpm's but you learn how to handle. For me its not an issue.
Really like how the car handles.
In my country we have the same problem of lack of stock for 2017. Not many cars available and most of them are already coming pre sold or with a reservation. I would say 100% of them are coming with PDK. You will find a MT only if somebody specifically asks for it. The problem comes afterwards when you try to sell it. Nobody seems to like the MT down here.

Thanks all. I think what you describe is a combination of MT drivers "aging out" and a dearth of younger people able/willing to learn a MT. Plus, the PDK is clearly "faster and better" to "most". Just not me.

I think he's talking about the manual transmission. Alluding to the likelihood it will soon be Porsche history.

I have a "base" Targa 4 with MT and love it. I don't detect any turbo lag and the shifting is precise. I does have a bit of old school feel and looks, but way cheaper than a Singer and can be driven as a DD. MT transmissions will disappear as cars go electric, then even the PDK will be obsolete, so enjoy while you can before cars become glorified self-driving "taxis."
