Is there an acoustically transparent yet durable material I could use to cover my door speakers?
Living in So Cal it is usually warm and sunny and I am usually in shorts. I have noticed that during spirited driving and in AX I tend to brace myself with my left foot on the dead peddle and left knee against the driver side door speaker. The metal grill on that speaker feels like a cheese grater on my knee.
Suggestions? (Both serious and sarcastic are welcome )
seriously try going out on the track - its much much worse - Ive actually broken the skin and bruised my knees doing this...
only solution (for the track) are better seats (like the Gt2 sports buckets) with higher bolsters and better belts (4-6 pt) that keep you glued in place.
I figure on the track, from what I have been told, I'll need to wear long pants so it won't be an issue there.
I have tried multiple layers of painter's tap and it worked just OK, was hoping for something a bit more permanent.
I like the idea of the cheese. I used to heat burritos on my jeep manifold when out wheeling, maybe I can combine the two ideas for a tasty mid-race lunch.

This is a common issue. May I suggest a solution that is both stylish, comfortable and acoustically correct ? Rubber is an excellent insulator, and the cuffs ensure correct hand position on the steering wheel. Hint for rookies - Keep the mouth zipper open when talking to people; you don't want to seem unfriendly or odd.
STG's pad idea should work. Something else to consider is a G-Force strap, it goes around the back of the seat and fits tight like a belt. I use one on the track, didn't think much of it until I forgot to connect it one time - it really holds me down in the seat so I don't need to brace myself as much (still do somewhat unconsciously but not tight enough to wear down my knee).
Maybe a slim pad that you can set in place in front of the speaker when driving? Throw it in the back or wherever when not needed.
Would be pretty small anyway.
No loose items allowed in vehicle during AX. I'm sure it is the same for track days. I suppose I could tape it to the door though.

I'm thinking this might make me just a little too popular with the wrong folks.

Never heard of a G-Froce strap. I'll look into it. Thank you.
