Same exact stitching problem on my 2012 991 (purchased new). While under warranty I showed this problem (not fully coming apart yet) to my dealer. Same answer, "normal wear and tear". I had to use some super glue to stop the stitching from unraveling. Otherwise, the top seems okay, but will be my last cabriolet. I've owned several Porsche's over the years; sure they're fun to drive, but quality from vendors lacks. Many irritating things don't last. Cheap plastic through-out is a huge problem. The 911 is a cash cow, so Porsche is not inclined to acknowledge problems or repair. What troubles me are those parts and sensors that continuously go bad, and they just keep using the same items in their latest cars. Such as: sunvisors with a vanity mirror lid that always falls off, trim through-out the interior and exterior. Windshield components that fall off and many more. BTW: same basic issues with my Macan S.

OK....totally off topic, sorry, (though I am currently cleaning my wife's cab C4S top).....how, how, HKPlinker do you take a pic so good as that cab pic?.
I am not a great photographer....have a decent Nikon and new iPhone but.....that cab in the pic just pops! I love it.

The photo is definitely post-processed and that is a skill in itself -

The wear on the 911 cabrio tops is what kept me from buying one. I did buy a 2013 911 coupe instead and also kept my 2015 Boxster. The Boxster top wears also but not quite as badly as the 911 seems to. My Boxster now has 22,000 miles and is garaged. I keep the top up when parked to minimize the wrinkling and the fold marks. The top sealer I bought seems to help a small bit.
I think this wouldn't be an issue if Porsche used a more sturdy canvas material and/or had a stitched crease where the folds tend to be.
As others have stated, Merc and BMW don't seem to have this issue in their tops. Audi A5/S5 cars seemed to look about like Porsche cars do.

The top on my Boxster isn't bad but it doesn't look as good as it should considering how little use it has had.
