Default CPO and Maintenance

I am close to a purchase of a 2012 CPO Carrera S, although I just found out that the dealer does not want to perform the 4 yr/40k maintenance. It is now 4 yr 4 mo old at 24,800 miles. The sales guy says "most clients go by mileage, and not by age". He says that it won't void my CPO. I am trying to get them to perform the service, and have quoted the porsche website which states that all maintenance be up to date for CPO to be issued. Has anyone run into a similar issue?

Hmm... has it at least been getting a yearly oil change? I know the 40k includes new plugs, not sure if those really age much sitting in the garage doing nothing. The 60k I did last year included a new accessory belt, I'm sure that one eventually needs to be replaced whether the car is driven or not.

According to the carfax, it doesnt show any oil changes. The oil was changed by the dealer a few days ago. For the spark plugs, do most owners wait till closer to the mileage?

You are correct to quote from the Porsche CPO brochure. Since this car has not had all the manufacture recommended service maintenance performed it does not qualify for CPO. This is not an issue you should insist on, rather the dealer should have already performed this service prior to selling as a CPO.

This is what I understand reading the CPO eligibility criteria.

Even if the dealer says "most go by mileage", this is not what's recommend by Porsche in writing as per the manual.

A used car dealer acting weasel-y. Shocking. If they're not being up front, I'd walk...T

That's BS and disappointing. We're seeing prices for the 40K service to be at least in the $2k range. Is this dealership also a place you will take the car for future service?

Tell the salesguy you'll buy it, but he needs to give you a credit voucher for the 40K service, and you'll bring it back in 15,201 miles. Watch him/her squirm.

Or, tell them to either get the service records up to date to comply with the CPO, or your next call is to PCNA to report their poor/misleading sales tactics.

Have them knock $2k off of the price and then have the service done at another dealer or an independent shop.

This is bogus. I bought a CPO 2012S a few months ago with 21k miles on it. The dealer had already performed the 4/40k service as part of the CPO checklist. Got quite a folder full of everything they checked or did to qualify the car for CPO. I would ask to see it out of curiosity.

I've read that Porsche recommend the plugs changed @ 4/40 not just because they are necessarily worn out but because they don't want the plugs to seize in the aluminum block and strip the threads out when you change them. If you look at it this way the car needs the service regardless of mileage at 4 years.

Is this car originally from and serviced from this same dealer?
If so I would probably be more concerned and walk away from this one.

If the car was from another dealerships and I really wanted it, I would:
1) obtain information about all services performed. If you call a reputable dealer will tell you the history over the phone.
2) Get a PPI.
3) Take 2K off the price as well as purchase it with CPO but at the negotiated non CPO price.

BTW which dealer is this? Or could you PM?
Curious as I search nationwide when buying cars.

Thanx.

More importantly good luck with your search.

Default Thanks for the help

Thanks everyone for the tips. I called PCNA, and they agreed with me to resolve the issue. Car is getting the 40k service before delivery!

Nicely done. Hopefully they don't pee in the windshield reservoir while prepping because you had to have PCNA slap them into line.

Amazing they tried to get away with this.

Good for you. Don't let them away with it.

I am also having a week of slapping companies that don't deliver on what I paid for. Not as successful as you so far!

My car is a 2012.5 with 5500 miles. Is there any benefit to having this done given the mileage @ 4 years?
