I see, apparently they kept it for "heritage". I know it's probably heresy to many on here, but I feel about the same way about other ugly "heritage" features like pepita, black engine covers or fuch-inspired wheel designs like the new .2 Carrera Sport monstrosities.

That is my guess as to the cause of the failures.

991 owners all over the globe begin parking their 911s today with their engine lids opened for better heat transfer.

Just had mine replaced under CPO during the service... I didn't even have a chance to notice -- the dealership tech did.

But do the front ones die as frequently as the engine lids supports do? That's the relevant question.

Mine were both replaced at the same time and while the car was still under warranty. There's another thread out there...

Mine were replaced when the car was CPO'd last summer, I suspect it's just a part that is prone to failure. Dealer had them listed on the invoice at $74.99 (CAD) each.

The dealer's tech replaced them on my 993 without asking me because he was frustrated with propping open the cover. Of course I was charged. Had them replaced on my 991 GTS under warranty yesterday.

Mine were replaced last month under warranty on my 2014 991.1S.

Since this is apparently an issue with the 991, I wonder if Porsche might have a hidden warranty program for faulty supports on 991 cars? Worth asking if anyone has failed support on an out-of-warranty car...

My struts crapped out on me this afternoon while doing an oil change. It made changing out the oil filter a real PITA.
