As we all know, the 991.1 is the last of the NA engines in non-GT3 models. Nothing wrong with turbocharging, but the NA engine has been a part of the DNA of the 911 since its inception in 1963. What would make the 991.2 a collector's item in 25 years? The fact that it has Apple Car Play? The fact that it is the first 911 turbocharged non-"Turbo" turbo? From what I have read, it sounds like Porsche R and D swapped out the NA for the turbocharged engine not because they wanted to but because they had to for emissions standards purposes. Yes, they put out advertisements about how the new 991.2 is a major leap forward for the 911 but is it really? Are the upgrades between the 991.1 and 991.2 really that big of a leap forward? In my opinion, all 911s are collector's items with the passing of time but if I had to guess at which model would be more sought after in 25 years, the 991.1 would get my vote.

Buying a Porsche 911 for transportation is somewhat akin to the old E-ticket rides at Disneyland. You could spend your day in the park much more economically riding the tame A-ticket merry-go-round, but for an exciting day the most expensive E-ticket roller coaster rides provide constant thrills.
At the end of the day it was more expensive to enjoy E-ticket rides and you had no residual value with the tickets used up . . . but oh, the memories.
At least our 991 will be worth $25,000 or so after 10 years of exciting motoring!
