Default SCRATCH!!! rear bumper...

Walked out to my car which was parked a mile away from everything and noticed a very lengthy scratch on the back bumper. I took it to a recommended local body shop and was told the entire bumper would have to be removed and painted which was big $$$$.

The scratch:

Hopefully this is the first and last but I was wondering is this something that can be touched up? It keeps me up and night and I need to get it fixed.

Thanks

That looks to be beyond just touch-up... I think it will need to be resprayed by a body shop. That really sucks. People are the worst.

No way. a bumper guy can fix that. body shops only know how to do what mitchel (system they use for quoting) tells them.

it will need to be sprayed, but it can be done very well by a good bumper guy. Example? wife's white BMW got smacked hard in parking lot while suV was pulling out, rubbed corner just like that, similar to yours but WAY worse, up and down entire side. Had one of best bumper guys in socal come out, fixed it in 4 hours, it looks perfect, cannot (and i'm an **** sob) tell it's been painted, repaired, etc.

Once you've had the cover refinished, and let it cure for appropriate time, get it covered in PPF. I've seen worse rubs than that on PPF just peel-off the body/cover leaving the OE part unscathed as if nothing had happened at all..... Well worth the investment, for those of you out there who can't stand the bumper looking like it got bumped! LOL

Over $2500+, and that was without sending it back to my dealer for new badging on the back.

I'm shocked they're quoting that much. Taking the bumper cover off takes like 10 min, so that's no big deal. No way a rear bumper should cost more than $1000 to repaint (and even that's a lot). Try getting some more quotes.

I'd expect a price more in line with $600.

That is what I thought. Their hourly was only $75 an hour as well.

They are a highly praised certified Porsche auto body shop and they are so busy they can't even see me until the end of July. So maybe it's just too small of a job for them.

Are you running through your insurance? If yes, does it really matter the cost? Get the best job done, and move on. Sorry to see.

I wanted to self pay so that I didn't make a claim but I was thinking of giving my insurance company a call to see what it would do to my premium.

Should be vandalism? Right? Maybe no impact. That's what insurance is for.

Shouldn't be big money for a bumper remove, fix, re-install. Get some quotes.

I bet they included a new cover in this price. Unnecessary.
