Then the duck tail was fitted and the engine lid cover painted Porsche metallic black. You'll notice at this stage the back lights are still the standard light coloured ones and the eagle eyes will spot that the graphics on the tail haven't been removed - you can see that "Porsche" is higher up, because it still says "911 carrera gts" underneath at this time...

We got the rennline grilles from Shawn and the Porsche bodyshop removed the bumper, cut the horizontal slats and installed the kit. They commented that it was a tricky job but that the kit was excellent quality.

You can see that at the same time they also painted the front splitter Porsche metallic black to match the rear deck.

Unfortunately the standard gts side skirt lower trims are a textured finish, and Porsche would not guarantee the paint on them (they wouldn't paint them!) so we had to order in a pair of new side skirts in primer out of the parts catalogue, which are supplied smooth. They were painted the matching metallic black.

Oops that was the wrong photo. Above is the tech art smile grille that was installed at the same time as the other bumper work.

Here is the side skirt detail. Don't underestimate the visual impact these pieces have in gloss when you see the car. It's a great mod in my opinion.

In the photo 2 up you also see the tech art light trims. I had these done Porsche GT silver, and then the mirrors were stripped with the bottom half Porsche met black and the top half in the GT silver. This idea came from the 997 rs 4.0 which had silver lamp rings and mirror parts.

Then the rear diffuser from Glenn at exotic was swapped out and the cargraphic exhaust tips fitted...

Awesome build from start to finish, I love the black engine vent with the duck tail- absolutely spot on!

I'm glad I was able to help out on this one and I can't wait to see what's next... because there's always something next with these kinds of projects right?

Hi Julian!
I want to do the tech art smile vent in the bumper. Was there any issues with the install? Quality good? Fit? Anything under bumper that interfered with the vent? Thanks for any help.

Hi!

No - the tech art grille went straight in, according to the guys at the OPC. The only note was that they wouldn't paint it because it was texture finish. (Ideally i wanted it metallic black) but actually it looks fab.

It's a nice piece and very well made.

Nice to see that treatment -- I am having my GTS CLs (currently OEM black satin) repainted tomorrow. Decided to leave the inside of the barrels black for the same reason as you. Spokes will be GT Silver, in a satin finish similar to what's on there now.

Great build and congrats... I would have kept the wheel in the stock finish but that's just personal preference.

Thanks for sharing the build... enjoy!

Absolutely - the red isn't for everyone but I thought I'd make it a bit different. Ferrari do a chromate finish which is nice and I considered that but in the end the red won out for me :-)

And :

I agree the gts black looks a little dull - stealthy and sinister and cool and I do like it but I think your car will look amazing on the silver wheels. Can you post pics when done please as I still have the original wheels which I might copy you with, if they look good 👍🏻
