base 991 or 997.2 S the higher performing car?
Anyone know? The 997.2 makes more power, but I have been reading the 991 is a better handling car. At the track, both stock, which will be faster, in the hands of an equally skilled driver?

Very comprable in my opinion. Two different cars too. The wider front track and slightly longer wheelbase of the 991 will help in the handeling department. The 997.2S is a great car in it's own right. Most will say get the newest and closest in options that are important to you car you can afford. My last car was a 997.2S cab and I loved it. I also love my 9914S more! Good luck.

Well, Ring times are faster across the board on the 991 over the 997.2 in comparable models. Also the Porsche test drivers probably have comparable skills.
Safe to say the 991 chassis is more capable than the 997 chassis.

All things being equal, a 991.1S would readily beat an equivalent 997.2S. It has better dynamics due to the additional wheelbase, weight distribution, and various suspension component/settings improvements. It is easier to drive fast too.
Having driven a base 991.2 at the track, I think it would be as fast as a standard 991.1 S.

chuck may have missed this important distinction in the op's query
but i still think that while it would be close, the base 991 shd out-drive a 997.2 CS in a circuit battle, same tires, same skilled driver...maybe if the circuit had numerous long straights the hp advantage to the 997.2 CS (385 vs 345) would more than make up for big losses on turns
the longer wider 991 platform is a big leap forward in traction envelope, confident feel, suppleness and stability, this car will carry good bit more speed thru corners than 997

"chuck may have missed this important distinction in the op's query"
I don't think he did.
He was stating that the next-gen model always beats the previous gen model of the same type and that his experience with the 991.2 Base vs the 991.1S was that they were equivalent so probably the same for 991.1 Base and 997 S...

No biggie... threads can comment on related, tangential points too, no harm done.

There have to be objective data points to solve this question...
At the track, both stock, which will be faster, in the hands of an equally skilled driver?
My guess:
-Unskilled driver(s): 991 BASE faster
-Skilled driver (s): 997.2 S much faster
