Does anyone else on here name their machines?
For a long time I thought it was silly, but eventually my motorbiking friends wore me down and I named a motorbike. Once I started naming things I could not stop until I named everything I had. It's fun, and actually reduces confusion if you have bunches of things in your garage / drive way / yard / street / hanger. Typically about 10 to 20 days of ownership is all it takes for the appropriate name to become obvious to me, and I have been at it for years now.
Fast forward to about two weeks ago: The wife and I have a couple of days with no kids, and one quiet evening we watched National Lampoon's Vacation. When Chevy Chase picks up that gawd awful station wagon from the dealer at the beginning of the movie, my wife throws a fit. "Did you hear what that horrible car is named?! Wait! Is that... Did you name the SUV after this monstrosity?!" It turns out that she had never seen the movie before, and never thought twice when I named our diesel Merc GL "Family Truckster". I've lost the naming rights on the next purchase, but I'm O.K. with that.
So this is The Silver Menace, for reasons that are probably obvious.
Does anyone else name their machines? If so, what and what's the story behind the name?

Nameless cars cause the most trouble. Ours in order: Iris, Green Beast, Walt, GLP, DDG.

I've heard that frequently, thought I can't say naming them has improved the situation for me.
Sure, but suppose you decide to own more than one Porsche at a time? More than one of the same model? You'll have an episode of Newhart on your hands.

Always! On all cars too. Usually biblical names. The '09 Turbo was Sampson for example! Current ride is Peter, wife's CD is Duke II. Air porter is an '02 Passat 4mot named Jack. It gives the cars a bit of personality imho

I name all my stuff "In the Office". So when a customer/boss calls, and says, "Were the hell are you anyways?". I can honestly and calmly respond, "Well, in the office of course, how may I help you!!".
