Please be a bit more respectful and mature in your responses to other members. Lest this forum deteriorate to the schoolyard quality of the rest of the net.

You could have very simply said, "I think you're being a little biased, as you've never been a big fan of the .2"

You are absolutely right. I should have done that more tactfully.

Drove a .2 with power steering plus. Was pretty bad. Same would be the case with a .1 with the same option. I didn't feel any "improvement" in the .2 at higher speeds.
my .1 with power steering plus is terrible at lower speeds, I feel like I'm driving a Camry!
My beetle feels better in the parking lot

do not get power steering plus on .1 or .2s

Funny, funny, funny.

A lot of people who post on RL now came from 6 Speed.

So if its only software can we update the 991.1? Coming out of a 997.2 it took a while to get used to it. Definitely lost a lot of feel. Although its wasn't bad on a skid pad. Very easy to control.

Let me say it again. Comparing my Spyder to the Cayman, the Spyder feels more direct and slightly lighter. Comparing my .1 to the .2 I drove, the .2 felt more direct and slightly lighter. What you or me or anyone else prefers is personal. I'm telling you what I feel, nothing more.

That said, I love the Spyders steering and prefer it to the Cayman's or any other car I've driven.
What do you mean by more or less "direct". I understand direct to mean fewer turns lock to lock, hence a more immediate or "direct" response to the steering wheel. Steering effort is a different thing.

If I'm not mistaken, your dealer can de-program the power steering plus (for a small fee, of course).

Dealer deprogrammed PSP on mine. Very glad I did it.

I think "more direct" has more to do with feel and feedback through the steering wheel.
A direct feel changes how the steering wheel feels (gets light) when the front tires start to slip.

Was recently re-reading and re-warching a bunch of reviews, and found patterns which aren't surprising, but I'll record them anyway:

1) Most reviewers remarked that the steering on the 991 is overall excellent, but not as good as the hydraulic feel of the 997, which had decades of engineering refinement behind it.

2) Among those 991.2 reviewers who remarked on the steering, all found it noticeably closer to the 997's hydraulic feel than the 991.1's, and therefore better. More lively, with feedback, and less deadened at times. Nobody thought the 991.2's steering was worse.

3) Among those reviewers who stated a preference, the preference was for non-PSP.

4) Anecdotally, something like 70-80% of Rennlisters seem to think non-PSP is preferred. It seems like a much higher percentage than other options like PDCC (vs. none), SPASM (vs PASM), and PDK vs MT, which seem to split the community. The non-PSP preference seems to be up there with Instrument Dials in Black, Sport Chrono, or PSE as the most common options-of-no-regret.

5) The steering on the AWD models is a bit less nimble than on the RWD models, but with perhaps a bit more feedback or hydraulic-ness. Applies to both 991.1 and 991.2.
