Got rear ended today...
If your car is a total loss you are entitled to retail value plus sales tax.
If your is repairable, then cost of repair plus diminution in value (value of clean car vs. value of car with the accident history). Diminution in value can only be claimed against the person who caused the accident and not from your own insurance carrier.
Good luck.

Picked up my (Perfect) CPO C2S Cab 7 weeks ago in LA, beautiful drive home to SF via Ojai etc , great car so far, until this morning..
Lady behind me drove into me circa 40mph, no airbag deployment, seatbelt pretensioners activated though.
See glass pic for what happens when your roll over safety activates - glass flew into front of car - really hoping this is totalled, sports exhaust etc destroyed and panels all seem to be buckled :-( Engine def took the brunt of the impact
Still alive though, and a car is only an inanimate object - won't feel the same if it is just repaired though... beginning to wish I had leased it, but c'est la vie, at least I am alive and able to moan about it.

Getting rear ended at 40mph releases huge forces. No sign of whiplash syndrome? If you compare frontal crash test videos performed at marginally higher speeds there's little left of the car except the passenger cabin. No wonder the car was lifted and rollover bars deployed during the crash. I seriously doubt this will be repairable...
Car is with a Bay Area Porsche Dealer - initial estimate (they haven't even taken off the bumper) is circa $30k - am sure there will be more damage lurking underneath
Some advice wanted - stick with them for repair (they have their own on site body shop) or send to one of the local Porche Certified Approved Collision Centers?
Just a bit confused!

My advice is used a Porsche certified center. The initial estimate for my TTS was 12K and the Porsche repair guys completely dismantled the car and we ended up at 56K in damage. If it is determined repairable, then you know the repair has been done perfectly.
Hope for a total, though, as it is overall less stress and hardship on you.

Have pulled the car from the OPC with body shop, and it is soon en route to a local Certified Shop - know is seems so pedantic but I like as little risk exposure with these type of things as possible!
We all remember this one. Too bad MrGPD is not closer to LA and work with Sam Zamir. I'm sure Sam would help you in you have any questions or concerns.:

So after 2 black 991's and 2 rear accidents that I was not at fault in (a small fender bender caused by lady in rental car not concentrating in the first one) and this one...all I know is...
Not a black one next time round
Think I am going to order a Tesla Model S or an XC90/Cayenne as DD for the commute schlep and leave the 911 for the weekends

Well most of the expensive stufff is in the rear of these cars. I am sure it will be a fortune just to reset those roll bars.
Hopefully the frame is bent and mechanicals are toast. You will not want this back once it's "repaired".
Best of luck on the outcome.
But at that end of the day, we should all be thankful that everyone came out relatively un harmed.
