I've got keyless and I have to press the small rubber button on the handle to lock the door. No auto-locking based on proximity.

Doors do not lock by themselves. You have to lock them with the fob or if you have entry and drive, just press the black button on the door handle and that will lock the doors.

Do any manufacturers offer "automatic locking" if you have the fob in your pocket and you walk away from the car?
Wow...if people are complaining to JD Power about dashboard technology, just imagine the self-locking car gripes.

Seem like I read in the manual that when the doors are locked via the fob, it activates some sort of interior sensing unit, so if somebody broke a window and got into the car, it would activate.

Its likely that an auto locking mechanism such as you are inquiring about may cause some surprises when you hop out of the car with your key fob in your pocket to head into the rest area for a quick soda, and your wife remains in the car. Could be one reason why such functionality does not current exist.

It is interesting that the car can be set to automatically lock after a period of time lapses after you press to open and don't open the door. My car locks in about 30sec. You would think that if it can sense the engine is off, no movement in the car and FOB not in vicinity that it would lock. Go figure.

My Z06 used to have this feature and I loved it.

A cool feature is you pop the trunk, get out, press the black button on the door handle, get your stuff out of the truck, it locks and sets the alarm automatically as soon as the truck is closed.

A less cool feature is if you have the fob in your pocket while you wash the front of the car, the truck pops repeatedly because it hates you.

Another feature - If you want to leave a child or pet locked in the car you press the door handle button twice. At that point you will see the flashers do a slow blink. This means the door lock alarm is enabled but the internal sensor is not.

I'm not sure what the internal sensor is, my 996 had an internal infrared sensor that was looking for a heat signature inside the car. I suspect the current one is a motion sensor, does anyone know?

I think it is motion, I locked the door without thinking when I went to check into the hotel, my girlfriend said the alarm went off when she moved.

This is a feature I do not understand. 2 weeks ago i was going out of town. I unlocked my c2s with the fob, put my dog in the passenger seat and turned on the battery (for some air) while i ran back in the house. Please note the key is now in the ignition. Then I exited my home and locked the door with the handle. Please note i am now locked out of my house.

This is when i discovered this autolocking "feature" that engages even with the keys in the ignition.

And that's the story of how i broke out a bedroom window in my own home with a 9 iron.

You can set the PCM so that only occurs after the car moves.

Tesla Model S does this. You walk away from the car, the door handles retract flush with the body and locks.

Also does the reverse, walk towards the car, handles extend and unlocks as you put your hand on the handle.

Talking

So, I am disturbed because when I exit the car and move around to extract my bride from the other side, her door locks automatically after extraction and yet the driver's door remains unlocked. I am disturbed the passenger door locks unsolicited. I have this control fetish and would like both doors to lock at MY command from the fob without unsolicited interference. I know how to remedy this situation but cannot resolve my desire. My shrink and I are working on this intensively. The dealership roams in the background if needed.
