Default Plug change...

At what time/mileage would you change the spark plugs?

I'm @ 15k miles and 3.5 years old...

Dealer is saying I'm close the the 4 year service which includes plugs. I personally think that's crazy, but want some other opinions as well!

Thanks all!!!

Your dealer is correct. The engine air filters need to be done at the same time.

Spark plugs come up on the maintenance schedule at the 40K mark.

Are you keeping the car or is it on the way out?

Going to keep the car.

Lex, I see that at the 4 year or 40K mark, it just seems crazy to replace plugs at 15k miles to me! LOL
I don't know how 'worn' they'd be at this point.

So...my next question: would you guys do them now or wait until later on. I don't put that many miles on the car per year.

(air filters are going to get done by me sometime in the near future-BMC's will be installed)

Don't know how hard the plugs are to get to. Guess I will search that up!

Thanks again!

Just found this on a search Lex!!!

This is always asked, and endlessly debated. The main reason Porsche wants the plugs also changed at 4 years (or 40,000 miles) regardless of low mileage is having a plug seize in the block. Do you want that risk?? Spark plus are always one of the most overlooked parts on a car, and one of the hardest working. FYI- Porsche does not use, nor recommend, anti-seize on plug threads.

I will be replacing my plugs and engine air filters per Porsche's recommended schedule. I luv that new spark plug feel & smell.

Thanks...answered my question. Didn't know about the concern of a plug seizing in the head.

The good news is, you're going to pay around half (according to my SA) of what it costs to replace the plugs on a TT or .2 because the turbos have to removed to get to the plugs.

The bad news is, you could have enjoyed 25k more miles for the same price from a scheduled maintenance perspective. It's meant to be driven! Go drive it!

What plugs do you intend to use?

Any better alternatives out there?

Plugs have anti seize coating by default. Yes, I have plugs that are 8 years old and never had any seizing. Plugs should be mileage based. I mean, they don't foul or burn up if not driven.

I just got this major service done, 12600 miles and the car almost 4 years old. Cost about 1400$ I think...

If you are a DIY'er the entire 40K service (removing rear bumper, air filter, plug change, etc) is pretty straight forward.

I think it’s straightforward EXCEPT for the spark plugs on the 991.2. Supposedly much easier & straightforward to do spark plugs on the 991.1.

For plugs on 991.2, Dealer quoted me $900. Indy quoted $700.
