How is it that the hack only works with keyless entry systems? Can it not be used to feign the key transponder itself?

Notice that on the cheaper version the amplifier has to be near the key. Of course someone with an amplifier in their coat lining/pocket could walk around (slowly) in a restaurant and pick up the key signal from a victim's purse or pocket.

The simple hack (cheap version) is real, I was at a local Range Rover dealership a few weeks ago and they explained how they lost 3 vehicles. The guy doing test drives was carrying a briefcase with him and was collecting the signals to use again later that night.

Some cars use a simple RF signal while others use a more complex challenge-response system, with a roaming passcode - I hope that's what we have.

Pretty much everything can be hacked but that doesn't stop us from using our phones, computers, etc.

I love keyless entry. If my car is stolen, I'll use the insurance money to try something new.

To add some clarity here, we're actually talking about "keyless go" and not your standard keyless entry. The "hackers" are able to boost the signal of the key fob so that the vehicle recognizes the presence, but they can't actually execute a remote command with that technology.

I hate it for the more pedestrian reasons that people have always hated it for! So glad that Porsche is almost unique among 6-figure car sellers in letting you not only delete it, but save a few bucks by doing so! Everybody wins.

+1 Had keyless for last 2 cars - not about to change now. Hackers aren't going away, so a risk one has to live w/ ....

Out of all the crazy things I've read on this forum, NEVER once about a stolen car. Especially by some electronic gadget.

You have a better chance of getting carjacked, rear ended in an accident, or getting a date with Maria Sharapova.

Love mine too.

After having keyless entry I would NEVER go back.

Also love the fact its still a key turn and NOT a button in my GTS....
