I just read the news that Porsche has finally decided to include carplay in the 2016 991 models. Does that mean the older 991s (I have a 2013) will be able to be retrofitted with the OEM aftermarket carplay console?

Has anyone tried it? I would love to replace my PCM with Carplay if possible.

Nope. Just went through a tech session given by PCNA yesterday on their "Connected Car" technologies for the 991.2 with the PCM 4.0. I asked a few questions about software-only retrofitting to the pre-4.0 PCM's and the answer was simply "no." The use of Carplay requires the new PCM and other hardware bits that are integrated throughout the car, none of which there is any plan for retrofitting into previous gen-991 or earlier PCMs.

Now, this is the current response -- who knows what we'll see in the future (for example, perhaps someone like NAV-TV will develop an interface harness, something along those lines), but for now PAG is not planning on PCM 4 retrofitting to 991.1 cars. Sad if you ask me....
