Default How often do you track your car?

I recently joined a track near by and we have over 40 member days on the calendar. While I can't make that many trips to the track I think I can easily make 20. A little concerned about wear and tear on the car. For those who track their cars, how many hard driving track events do you hit in a year? How well does the car hold up to 5000+ rpms for extended times?

Before this discussion gets started, I would like to put in a plug for safety.

The street 911 isn't a race car, but it's a lot like a race car.

I consider this the minimum gear for track events: helmet (of course), roll bar, racing seat, 6 pt harness, HANS. Nice to have: suit, shoes, gloves.

Sorry, let me clarify. I'm not racing, it's high performance driving. We have road rules (follow the line, let people pass, etc.) and we wear safety gear (helmet, proper clothes, etc), but we aren't pushing to the point of roll bars, cages, racing harnesses, etc. The track in question, as with all the local tracks in this region, have adequate flat runout in the corners.

Sorry for the misrepresentation, consider this similar to a DE event. I'm mostly concerned about the amount of time the car is in the power band and interested to learn from others who have already done this.

My previous track experience has been through PCA and the most I could schedule in a season was 10 events, and that took a lot of scheduling work, 5 events is really the norm for me through PCA.

I have averaged 12-15 track days per season (Northeast) in my 2014. The engine is quite happy north of 6500 RPM. Other than consumables, it does not seem to be worse for wear.

Excellent - thanks, that's exactly the kind of feedback I'm looking for.

Less and less these days but I've put a lot of track miles on my car in the last two years. Yours will be fine.

I do about 15-18 track days a year. I tracked my Cayman S for 4 years prior to my 991 which I'm preparing for its 3rd year. Not a creak, rattle or mechanical mishap on either car. As mentioned, you do run through consumables quicker. Things like frequent oil changes make the engine happier and brake fluid flushes keep you safer. Tires go quicker, too. You will experience more chance at road rash from track debris and nearby cars. To help thwart this I have clear bra on the full front end, mirrors, rockers, behind the wheel openings and the leading panel of the roof. It has paid off!

Have fun at the track!

If you track your car do you have any trouble with the warranty?

No. My dealer is aware of the track days and supports using the car "as it was designed to be driven".

Wait... so you're saying if you go to track events. Like track days. You AT MINIMUM should have a roll bar installed inside your car? For a track day.

And a 6-point harness???

For a track day.

And a racing seat???

For a track day.

So my dealer invites me out to one of their track days and I have to say, hold on, I need you to install a roll bar and 6-point harness and a racing seat in my car before I can safely take it on the track.

For a track day.

Pretty funny isn't it? That's most of the safety gear. Plus a fire extinguisher I guess. If it's hot I wear a coolshirt, and my coach and I use video and data to analyze each session.

The OP mentioned spending a season on the track, I posted, and he said he has his program handled. He's an enthusiast and a nice guy.

Regardless, I said that's what I do. I didn't say what you should do. After what you posted yesterday and today, I'll just ignore you anyway.

I do about 20 days a year.
I push the car fairly hard, but if you keep the Nannies on, and not run over 8/10th you can run with just a helmet for HPDE.
But be ready for the cost!
Tires, brake jobs, extra oil changes add up fast.
Conservatively I figure new brakes, oil change, and tires every 4 to 5 days.
Then their is the track debris , even with clear raps rocks, tire balance weight, will pierce and cause dents and deep nicks.
Luckily my insurance just payed for my new windshield

I always say," HAVING A PERFORMANCE CAR AND NOT DRIVING IT FAST,
IS LIKE HAVING A BEAUTIFUL WIFE AND NOT MAKING LOVE TO HER!
