What a brilliant observation . This is exactly what the 911 should be , or at least be able to option .Think of the fortune Porsche would make offering a lot of the R as options on the 911 .

The R is pretty cool. I do wish GT3 or 991R's suspension setup would available for the regular 911.

My perfect and realistically priced 911 would be a S or GTS with 991R or GT3's suspension and that 6 speed manual. I can do without 500 hp, 400 - 430 hp is more than enough for everyday street driving fun.

The good thing is the suspension is relatively easy to match or even better with after market parts. Adjustable control arms, solid bushings and a set of high end dampers (ohlins, Penske, moton, etc). Then some SC2s which is a huge amount of the grip and you're set.

They are building only 991 examples.

I have said for a long time I think Porsche should offer the option of a GT3 engine dropped in your base Carrera for 25K extra. Ok so it turns out they will do it, but for 50K more I would still pay this, and its hard to see how Porsche would not make a whole lot of money doing this for everyone Somewhere along the line the base Carreras have been emasculated, hence the popularity of this car.

Much simpler plan (and much more popular with we cognoscenti) would be to keep the GT3 as is, only start to offer it with Wing Delete and PDK Delete. Drop the price $7k to reflect the loss of those parts, and build 'em till people won't but 'em anymore.

Instead we get a similar plan with a few detail changes: Keep the GT3 as is, only offer it with Wing Delete, PDK Delete, and RS engine only. Raise price $50k to reflect the extra .2 liters of awesomeness. Severely limit production so people will think they are so very, very fortunate to be among the chosen few to be allowed to pay that delete-option premium.

I don't own any Porsche stock so I really don't care how much money they make or don't make, but I would buy the 'R Power Steering Upgrade' if there were such a thing.

Well, after building a bunch of high optioned 911s, I ended up leasing a nearly stripped 2016 C2 with M/T.

Sport Wheels, Mirrors, and Steering Wheel and of course PSE. But that's it, not even BOSE.

I'm loving this very basic Carrera and seriously looking to purchase it at the end of my lease.

So yes, the 911R really appeals to me and I would love to see a similar version pushed down to a lower price range as I could do without CF fenders etc...

Welcome to the club! Here is my totally stripped 2014 C2. PDK was my only option. Nothing else. (The 20" wheels were bought second hand. The clear side markers were thrown in for free.) Dealer said it was the lowest optioned 991 they had ever sold.

I might be mistaken but doesn't your car also have the Sport Design wheel? Thought I recall seeing it in a pic you posted but not sure. Was that not on your options list/build sheet?

Either way you clearly have more restraint than I... my GTS has a well equipped Honda Accord in options.

The R is what a 911 should be... That is exactly where my head is at though why wait for the factory... The genius of the 911 is the ability to customize it ... I'm thinking a TPC stage 2 suspension, short shift kit for the MT, sharkwerks exhaust bi-pass with PSE, Remove a little bit of the back shelf sound insulation for better interior sounds, a light weight flywheel clutch, and a Jake Raby 9A1 rebuild and you have your very own R. If you start with a used 991 (admittedly tough to find since 85% are PDK), you could likely do it all for less than 100k and over time as budget allows. Of course the end result won't be as light as the R with magnesium roof etc, but would be a very cool car... The R had given me a blueprint for where I'd like to take my 911 (granted I am starting from a 997.2 but that's beside the point)

You're correct. Technically two options: PDK & Sport Design Wheel. I always think of them as one and the same because I can't imagine having PDK with those silly buttons.

Yep same here. PDK with the multi-function wheel/shift buttons is pretty awful IMO.

That's a nice twist! How bout they offer only two models. Technically two really exist. Narrow and wide body. Everything else optional. Cherry pick all the good parts. Will never happen though.

Porsche offers packages and that's how money is made. Bundle a bunch of option together with most of them being useless. Makes the consumer pay much more for things they don't need. While the msrp climbs
