Buying a 991 - RWD or AWD?

Three Wheelin'
I live in CT and use my 991.1 Targa 4S as my daily driver, and certainly feel a lot more confident on wintery roads with the AWD. And as others have pointed out, she's got a nice looking ***.

On the 991.1s I tested I preferred the feel of RWD. AWD was more planted going fast but something about turning un-driven wheels just made the car feel more alive. Plus I was already getting a cab and didn't want any more cost or weight!
That said it doesn't snow where I live very much...

On Top Gear season 7 episode 5 I believe the Stig raced them on a short windy track and though the 4 prevailed by 1/2 second. The Stig preferred the two wheel for some reason. The end of the video quit before I heard it.

I would think he probably liked the progressive slide and rotation of mass that is intrinsic to the character of the car. I'm getting S-PASM too and am just looking forward to goobs and goobs and goobs of lateral g's. Oh, and did someone mention dat behind?

Check out this month's Panorama mag and Pete Stout's 2 is the 1 article. Less is more...

Drove the 2GTS and 4GTS on snow and ice at Camp4, the Porsche winter driving course in the Laurentians. The 4 was definitely more balanced and stable, but the 2 was marginally more fun. In particular, the 2 was easier to drift. Rally style driving required different technique in both cars, so if you're transitioning from a 2 to 4, you'll have to unlearn some things and learn some new things. I own a Targa 4S and have driven it in heavy snow on public roads. I think the 4 is better daily driver on bad roads and the 2 the better snow day toy.

Pretty simple - it's a rear heavy car. Buy AWD. Plus steering feel is better. Period.

So, yeah, lots of reviewers preferred the 4, but I didn't. Lots of reviewers also think the 991.2 is more fun than the 991.1 too, which I don't. In neither case is this swivel-eyed purism - I just drove both cars and formed an opinion. My advice to the OP is to drive both back-to-back if at all possible and pick the one they like the best.
