Considering 991 in 2016 any advice

I'll put in my two cents.
I initially had a PDK 991 Targa 4S (pictured) and have since switched to a manual C2 GTS (I know, lazy I need to update pic). I too live in the NE with occasional snow days.
My distilled opinion (because we all know the PDK v. manual debate is endless): if you plan on using the car in a timeshare with with another as a daily driver and don't plan on taking it out on heavy snow days, you will be ok without AWD. If you do and live in New England, then maybe AWD is a good idea. IMO, the manual trans is more involving than a PDK in manual mode, and I realized that's what I wanted in the end--a car I can drive in a timeshare as a DD with my other car, but also one that provides a distinctly different feel to it and level of joy when I take it out on the weekends. My car makes me feel "special" everytime I drive it. I know most 911s will do this to their owner. You just have to answer if being more involved in the driving process is what you want and makes you feel that way. Last consideration there is traffic: if you are going to be DD in heavy stop and go traffic, the PDK may the way to go, but I personally don't think the manual is a complete no-go even in that situation.
Lastly, consider a GTS if you can find one - as someone above stated, check out STGs thread.

Wow, I live in a MA town that borders NH, did you look out the window today? Never drove my Porsches in the winter. Once I did all the prep to put them away for the winter I just let them sit. Must admit this winter didn't put the car away till early January.
the old PDK vs. M trans. I was also a diehard manual transmission fan, and my last 2 Porsches both had manuals. But, after driving the PDK for a while I love it. I got stuck in Hampton beach traffic a couple of times, not easy with a stick. Either one is fun though.
We driver from Nashua to Keene via 101 all the time great ride. Lots times we just keep going into Vermont.
Good luck.

I think the 991.1 GTS is going to be similar to the 993 in desirability. Get that one. It has PSE and SC plus beefed up engine components with the power kit. If you are holding out for the 991.2, forget it. It's not worth it.
There are plenty of 991.1 GTSs on dealer lots. You can't order any more of them.

Ooops....maybe not. Note buried in this article that the 991.2 GTS will remain 3.8L NA.
