Default Was looking for a ......

Sorry for the click bait.

Looking possibly at a cheaper option to the CF rear spoilers sold in the US.
Anyone cheap like me and considered one of these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Carbon-Fiber...tWV7yh&vxp=mtr

I am thinking that the more expensive US suppliers get them from the same source and just increase the price tremendously based on their name and location.

But may spin the big wheel on this.

If you are comfortable making a $300 (US) purchase from an Ebay seller with only 123 rating, and from China, I say go for it! Me? I wouldn't risk it for that type of purchase. The slightest design flaw and you have a $300 paper-weight. But there is also the chance you are right that this part is just like the V-stiener or other "known" parts out there and for much less $$ very happy! Either way, keep us posted! Good Luck!

I think paying $900 - $1200 for the Vorsteiner spoiler is outrageous - but you are probably paying for real carbon fiber. The stuff on ebay is probably not real carbon fiber, even though they advertise it as such. If you compare the two, you probably could not tell the difference by a quick look and would probably look ok on the car. I think the difference would be noticeable over time as the ebay product would probably fade and discolor. Also, more potential for fitment issues with the ebay product. You get what you pay for.

What you will discover if you haven't already, is that putting cheap kit on a pricey car never works. If you had a 12-year-old Subaru STi, then that's fine....but a 991 Porsche? That part will be substandard and not up to the quality of the car. It will almost certainly not be finely finished and require some work, and may or may not fit well. Your rationale is flawed on thinking its the same as the high quality parts - in my experience it never is.

Indeed. Just because it is advertised as carbon fiber from some Ebay vendor does not mean it is the real deal... at the price it is more likely some sort of plastic with a carbon fiber weave overlay + clear coat on top.

While I'm also not a fan of the Porsche tax buying cheap replica junk from China just doesn't feel right for a Porsche 991... my 2 cents.

Get the Vorsteiner rear wing. There are places to be cheap but not on something hanging off the back of a $100 K plus car. Get over it and spend the bucks.

It's a $300.00 risk, if you can accept the fact that you may just be throwing that away, then go for it.

That pretty well sums it up for me. Sort of, hope for the best, but prepare for the worst, and at $300 might be worth the gamble.

Thanks for the responses.

Definitely buy the vorsteiner piece. I have already gotten some experience with poor quality 991 parts. There is this company called NR automotive that sells knock of vorsteiner diffusers. I figured, hey, this is probably the exact same thing as the vorsteiner part without the ridiculous markup. WRONG. It was a carbon overlay on a plastic part that was done terribly. The carbon weave was huge and it was all very wavy. It looked like absolute garbage. On top of that, my first one arrived broken and they didn't want to let me have a refund. Had to go through the PayPal claim process and everything. I ended up getting my money back and buying a vorsteiner piece.

Trust me when I say it will be less of a headache to buy from a reputable company and get exactly what you want the first time around.
