Gas cap not fully tightened (long term)

Hi, just heard about this forum and was hoping you all could help me out with some advice. I picked up a 991 carrera s w/ powerkit a few months ago and have been using it daily around the san francisco area. Since getting the car I found it odd that the gas cap didn't click when screwed down. Didn't think much of it until today when I turned it quite a bit harder than normal and.. click ![banghead](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/banghead.gif)
Guess somehow I hadn't been getting it fully closed. I'd normally just give it a quarter turn or so til it hit resistance and stop. Never noticed the cap spin or wiggle out between fills. Since picking up the car I've put around 3000 miles on it between spirited driving and some hilly city commuting. I haven't noticed a check engine light (although maybe I missed one at some point) and haven't noticed any fuel leaking down the side of the car, just seemed like I needed to fill up a bit more frequently than expected. Maybe evaporation?
Got me thinking though, could any of the miles put on with the cap not fully tightened do any real damage? (particularly to the engine) Seems like it could screw with the pressure in the fuel system. Feeling pretty stupid at the moment

Very little likelihood you'd hurt anything, especially if you didn't throw a code or warning.
Enjoy your awesome X51 and for gods sake post a pic!

Nothing to worry about. Here in NJ it's the law I cannot pump my own gas (I do sometimes) and I can't tell you how many times the attendants don't fully tighten the cap.
In fact, In my Range, I got a "tighten gas cap" message. Smart car.

You are fine---the "evaporation" you experienced is common with 911's---the gas disappears due to your right foot
---I only get 19-20MPG---I just love hearing the motor sing---long drive or short drive---every drive is music to my ears.

Only 19-20 mpg ?? I don't think I've seen any of my current cars get over 14 and that would be on the high side ... Average of my cars is 11-12 mpg
