I don't see what the problem is. Most PDK Porsche owners think they have a manual transmission...

How does adding a second automated clutch to a transmission while placing odd gears on one shaft, even gears on another, make the transmission a manual?

It doesn't. However, moving the shifter into the "M" position does.

I guess 'manually' shifting a Kia from 'L' to '2' is also manual function.

No, because neither 'L' nor '2' is equal to 'M'.

It's not the gears/gearbox that matters! It should be defined by the number of pedals on the floorboard; 3 = MT, 2 = not a MT.

Id also argue a PDK is not an automated manual. That term away used to refer to the single clutch designs of the ferrari or bmw designs that were literally, an manual transmission controlled by solenoids. the PDK isn't that.
Rather than getting into a technical discussion as to what constitutes a manual transmission, I agree that a DCT should not be classified as a manual to avoid any confusion. It would be much better if BMW dealers used three transmission categories: Automatic, MT, and DCT. Of course lots of people will have no idea what a DCT is but it will be a good conversation starter for the BMW SA.

Wait, wait, I've got it. Why compromise? How about a DCT with two clutch pedals?! By preselecting the next gear yourself, you get twice the driver involvement!

I'll bet I can get a prototype up and running by early April. Then it's off to the patent office!

You'll need to think about having two gear selecting levers. This'll take you until May.
