Default It is all about the color!!

My local dealer got 3 991.1 from the factory one to one builds. He told me that these cars are the onliest 991.1 in these colors. My guess is that Porsche built these cars to check out how these colors are looking for the 991.2.. The colors are graphitblue metalic how you can order it now for the .2, fjordblue uni and violett called pflaumenmetallic. Just took pics of the the violett one. If you want more pics or infos i can check it out in the next days.... It is no advertising for the dealer....

The light was not my friend today, so the pics are not the best ones.

Default We need more information on 'fjord blau' & 'pflaumenmetallic'...

The colors are graphitblue metallic, fjord blue uni and violet
called pflaumenmetallic.

This is rather odd, master_jcp, specifically re: 'fjord blau'
& 'pflaumenmetallic'.

'Graphitblau' is a known 'new' color. I broke the story of
this color to our readers in Rennlist when I saw it for the
first time at Leipzig in July of 2015 & reported it here:

***

But I can not find any reference to either 'Fjord Blau' or a
'Pflaumenmetallic' ('Plum Metallic') on even the latest PAG
approved PTS list dated Nov 17th, 2015!

There is a feasibility study going on a color called
'PowerLilaMetallic':

And there are two 'Violets' already approved:

***

Can you please go back to your dealer friends and try to
find out the specific Porsche factory color codes that are
assigned to these two A & B colors? And please photograph
the codes as found on the car and/or in the official PAG
paperwork for these cars from factory! Thank you.

A)

B)

We need you to photograph this sticker on the car:

For all we know (as the OP speculates), this might be a factory
experiment to test a replacement color for one of the current
standards (such as 'Night Blue Metallic', for example). But if so,
why are they on sale to the public at Porsche Zentrum Willich?

Dear Eduardo,
We haven't found the fjordblue car on the lot... the team is not complete based on holidays over here. The problem is that they got the cars new in and the stuff don't know a lot about them because they are very busy at the moment. So I don't have pics of that car for you. I forgot to take pics of the achtgrau one..... I will do this when i will have some time in the new year. The colors are (L)W55 Fjordblau uni and (L)W63 Plaumemetallic. Hope these code will help you.

Today the light was a little bit better. Best regards, Josef

My theory is that they build these cars to check out which colors to take for the 991.2... So they can watch how the colors are looking in real life on the cars. But this is just speculation. Hope my english is reasonable. ;-)

Well, it's all beginning to make sense. See below:

Josef: You mean 'earliest', correct? Yes that would make
sense and could indeed be the earliest (and perhaps only)
.1 991s done in those colors!

Josef:

Your English is fine! We understand. Yes, it's all beginning
to make sense to me now. I thought at first that these cars
were new, unsold .1 991 cars (left-overs MY2015). But now
I see they are not 'new' at all. They are used cars built in
2014 as Model Year 2015. And your dealer in Germany just
got them from PAG, probably as 'executive demos' that are
now auctioned off to dealers for sale to the general public.

And yes, these were probably colors - 'Graphite Blau Metallic',
'Fjord Blau' and 'Pflaumenmetallic' ('Plum Metallic') - that were
considered as possible uni & metallic colors to add for the next
.2 generation of 991 on the color palette.

These three colors were not PTS colors that were requested
by customers or that were undergoing 'feasibility study' via
the PTS customer program. That is why we have no record
of these color codes (e.g. W55, W63) in any of our PTS
approved lists. These were color formulated & designed by
the color fashionistas that investigate/analyse/propose new
colors to PAG management to add (or replaced) standard
colors on Porsche's offerings re: color palette. Of all of those
three colors we see at your dealership for sale, only one -
Graphite Blau - made the 'grade' & was selected as a .2 991
color, as we can see in the current Porsche configurator:

Just like I found the 'Graphite Blau' Boxster as a demo at
Leipzig in July 2015, where it was being used among other
things to test the reliability of the exterior paint, these odd
colored cars at your dealership were probably initially given
to PAG corporate executives or various Porsche departments
with the aim to monitor closely how the 'new' paint held up!
Now that this paint 'experiment' is over, these cars are auctioned
off by PAG & find their ways to dealers & the general public.

I think it would be a great treat to own one of these 'test'
color .1 991s. I hope they sell to folks in Germany that
understand how 'special' & 'rare' they will be, especially
those colors NOT chosen for inclusion into the Porsche
color palette for the .2 991.

Thanks again for bringing this matter to our attention
here at Rennlist!

Eduardo

A bit like the magic bamboo met one-off cayenne that was for sale a while ago. Great find!

I was reviewing the build sheets (if that's what they are??) that you posted, and I noticed the commission numbers for these 3 cars are very close to each other: 0971F (graphitblaumet), 0972F (pflaumemet), & 0976F (fjordblau). First question: do you know if ROW or German commission numbers end in "F" or an alphabetic letter usually (or is the "F" significant for factory cars or something like that)? My North American commission number was only numbers (no letter), for comparison. Second, I notice that the commission numbers seem to be sequential (with 0973F, 0974F, and 0975F in between not included in these cars for sale). This made me wonder whether there are (at least) 3 other such paint testing colours out there besides these, maybe in other wonderful new colours! Finally, I tried to look up these cars by VIN, and each of them came up as 'This vehicle is not available' which suggests these are "special" VINs somehow (or that I just can't look up ROW VINs for some reason). The colour on all of these seems to be listed as what I can only assume is PTS (Aussenfarbe nach wahl)--very interesting how the factory categorizes its colour-testing cars! Thanks again for a very interesting set of posts! I hope you can show us a photo of Fjordblau, or even give us a verbal impression of the colour please. Also, fwiw, I think it is very interesting that these are listed by the dealership as 'one of a kind' cars (Einzelstück)--so clearly they understand the significance of these cars!
