Buy the Nav-TV (incl. the camera), then it's just plug-and-play. Don't have to open up the PCM, so warranty is not affected.

I would assume it's the same for the 991 911s.

But If the PCM accepts the OEM camera then I don't need the extra interface (NavTV).
Or there is a "camera module" that Porsche installs on the PCM when you build the car with the back up camera?

You need the interface.

They said Rydeen and NavTV. I have a 2013 C2S. This was the shop my porsche sale rep told me to go see. The shop claims to do a lot of the work for the Porsche dealer.

Come on guys - it's you who's missing the point. if your car wasn't built with the factory camera option you don't have plug and play capability and you will need some type of interface - Nav TV, OEM etc

Upgrade?

I have a MY15 and the camera is terrible. So distorted it gives me a headache looking at it.

Service dept @ my P-d told me that my '15 911 GTS can't be "retro-fitted" with backup camera. So, I asked whether they'll do the labor if i buy OEM parts. The answer was still a No. Then, I read these posts here. And now, I'm scratching my head as to whether the dealer is incompetent, or the service mgr simply didn't like me

I'll wager its not wired for it ... pull the passenger side taillight and check to see what connectors are back there... I'll post a picture (later) of what you should find.

here is a picture of the space behind my passenger side tail light - you can see the connectors for the sensors and the camera ...

I believe the white/purple one is the camera (ignore the speech bubble, these are instructions for taking the bumper off

As far as I know, there's no efficient way to add the OEM camera on after the build. As far as retrofitting aftermarket parts, it's ALWAYS a possibility.

Keep in mind, if you have PCM, Nav-TV makes the interface module that adds a composite camera input to the factory screen. If you have CDR, the radio has to be sent to Nav-TV and modified at a board level to add the inputs.

by the way, if you haven't looked already, the link in my previous post #54 gives a lot of insight on the process.

Thank you! I've read that depending on the which parts are ordered + how the install is done, factory warranty may be voided. That thought is rather scary.

I don't know what CDR is. But, yes, I do believe I have PCM 3.1(?)

I did. It seemed like wonderful work. I've been toying w/ the idea of getting blackvue recorder system as well esp given the insurance claims nightmares I keep hearing about. Unfortunately, you guys are too far off for me to use Local cartunes store said they do the backup camera installs regularly without voiding the warranty.

CDR is the base stereo option without navigation. Looks similar to PCM but without nav/map buttons or an SD card slot in the center.
