I'm in the leather business - keep in mind that tapes (depending on the adhesive) can and will lift the pigment off the leather over time. I have seen it happen many, many times. The steering wheel on the 991 is painted leather, not dyed. Not saying it will happen, but it can happen. Just be prepared for it. You can also paint the leather red - that would be better than tape.

One of my suppliers paints on leather all the time as a custom, like this:

I know they put a sealer over the paint, so I will ask them if they they think the steering wheel market is viable.

That looks nice!
I'd really like to have a steering wheel like this. Sports design in alcantara, red stitching, and flat bottom, but $1,400 plus sending them my current steering wheel is a bit more than I'd feel comfortable spending on a steering wheel.

Usually adhesive are acidic, unless manufactured to be neutral. Over time, tape can yellow paper, for example. Probably not an issue with black leather steering wheels but the more you know...
