Cheap and easy mod lifted from the GT4 forum. JVCC gaffers tape, red, 1/2". 10 bucks Amazon. Looks pretty good in my GTS with carmine red deviated stitching interior.

I've been wanting to do this but I'm worried that the tape will leave residue on my alcantara wheel.

Looks cool. Do you know if anyone has experience with what happens to the steering wheel if/when the tape is removed?

If it's leather, it would just leave some residue behind and it could be cleaned off with a solvent. Alcantara.... Wouldn't be pretty.

I opted for the leather steering wheel. The tape leaves no residue at all on the leather. Not sure what it would do to alcantara but my guess is nothing at all. Some of the folks on the GT4 thread complained that the tape felt out of place compared to alcantara. The tape texture fits very nicely with the leather steering wheel.

Check out the GT4 thread for more info. But thought it would be interesting for other GTS owners with the carmine or rhodium comm packages. I will follow up in a few weeks to let people know how the tape holds up and looks.

It's gaffers tape literally leave no residue, at least not immediately. Had to try about 4 different pieces before I got it right. Easy to peel off no residue. The tape is like a cloth kind of tape not vinyl. Anyways, I would use caution with alcantara although there are plenty of folks in the GT4 thread that have used the tape on alcantara wheels.

I think it's the brand "JV Converting". But yes it is gaffers stage tape. Here is the description from the Amazon page:

"JVCC Stage-Set Spike Tape is a 1/2 inch wide gaffers tape that comes in 19 different colors. Spike tape is a narrow gaffers tape which is used to mark stages and for other color coding applications. Since it is a gaffers tape it will not leave adhesive residue behind when removed, can be torn by hand, and will not reflect light. Applications for spike tape include: color coding & marking; spiking stages; gaffing lights and bundling wires. The following colors currently come in 45 yard rolls: burgundy, dark (navy) blue, electric blue, fluorescent blue, olive drab, purple, tan and teal. The following colors currently come in 50 yard rolls: fluorescent green, fluorescent pink, fluorescent orange and fluorescent yellow. The following colors currently come in 55 yard rolls: black, blue, brown, dark green, grey, red, white and yellow. The 50 and 55-yard rolls of spike typically get cut from Polyken 510 source material while the 45-yard rolls typically comes from Pro Tapes Pro-Gaff material. NOTES: Sizes shipped will typically be the tape industry standard metric-cut sizes, i.e. 24mm for each 1 inch of nominal tape width ordered (rolls are approximately 5% narrower than the nominal size). This product's actual size is 12mm x 50m."

Yep, I just read more about it. I jumped the gun saying it would leave residue; apparently it does not leave any at all.

I ordered some off of amazon just now. Did you wrap it around once or twice? It seems like a lot of people have frayed edges, but yours looks amazing!

I wrapped it 1.25 times. So far no frayed edges. Took about four try's to get it right. Thanks!

Was thinking about this just the other day - looks great! Talk about easy and cheap mods . . .
