If given an option, I'd want HUD, but I would never not get a car because it didnt have it. Loved it in my M5, helped me keep my eyes glues to the road at all times. On the contrary, my wife hated it.

I like hud displays but sadly they don't play nice with polarized glasses.

I'm thinking about the utility of a HUD for navigation (less distraction by not having to look down at the built-in NAV or your iPhone for those who didn't get built-in NAV)

Any comments on the Navdy system?

HUD is just another tool to provide information the driver will use to control the vehicle. Would seem most important feature should be level of user friendliness.

Been flying F-16s for 31 years. I used the HUD every flight. I have Corvettes just to benefit from the HUD. Granted I have been driving Porsches (911) since 1980, but I have always wanted a HUD in my 911.
It allows more concentration on the road without glancing down at the gauges. If you have a HUD, you can dial away the info that you don't desire. It makes perfect sense. Oh well, don't knock it if you have driven on the track with one. I have a new Corvette Z06 and a Corvette 427 and the HUD is used exclusively. I never use the gauges below except when sitting at a red light. I am concerned about the 991.2 having read some of the reviews of actual Porsche owners, I was disappointed in what the feedback was on the car. May be shopping for a GTS, very late in the game for that.
Cheers,

I had HUD in my BMW 650 and really liked it. Part of the problem may be that the flat "screen" that projects upwards in the 650 may be too small for the dash of the 991 etc. After two years I don't miss the HUD though.

Have HUD in my 2016 Audi A6 and never use it. Thought it was cool at first but now just find it distracting and unnecessary. Maybe if I could customize it more...

I don't want to highjack the thread, however what I really can't believe is that the engineers have not incorporated the white stripe on top of the steering wheel. Notice the double leather stitching on top of the sport design wheel. It is there for a reason, why is it not offset in white or yellow? When in a spin, it is critical to know when the wheels are straight. I have placed white tape on mine, seems to me that this should be stock on all 911's.

I'm quite sure that Porsche will implement HUD with Mission-E in 2018-19.

I think (and hope) Porsche will give the venerable name "928" to Panamera and Mission-E. They've just given the name "718" to Boxster and Cayman. What do you think? Wouldn't it be cool to call Panamera "928 Sedan" and Mission-E "928 E-Coupe"?

Ferrari and also McLaren don't offer HUD. I'm surprised that Ferrari doesn't as they like to mimic F1 so much.

So, when HUD stops working on a +30 year old 911, how much does that cost to repair?

I'd like a HUD you have the option to have on or off. When I was doing very spirited driving through curvy mountain roads or when I took the car on the track I was completely focused on the road ahead and didn't want to look down at the tach or speedometer so the HUD would have been very useful. It would also be helpful for navigation directions if it worked right and could overlay exactly where to turn. It's not a deal killer, but it would definitely be nice to have.

It least the HUD is an option that you really don't need. What I wonder is the cost of keeping SPASM alive on a 30+ year old car. I guess if you keep one alive that long you will be slowly displacing out all of the wiz bang computer techery.

Once you have a HUD you really appreciate it. Keeps your focus and eyes up.

Having said that I don't miss it yet, and I love the engagement of the 911
