Default some (new owner) GTS questions...

First, 1000 miles in I can say I feel blessed to own this car.... what a privilege. Cannot believe it's really in my garage. Just looking at it makes me happy... don't come from money, and am the product of public education--nice to live in a country where hard work really does get you anything you want!

A few areas where your expertise is appreciated..

- Do we GTS owners benefit from an intake like this?

- What about filters? K&N style... any benefit, if only a bit more engine music? If yes... are the BMC filters worth twice the K&N?

- How long let warm up in morning? Once RPM settles in? Or once needle moves on the water temp? Or just go, and keep it under 4k until oil up to temp?

- Does our spoiler deploy at a certain speed automatically a la 993?

- For SoCal folks, any feedback re Circle Porsche service? They support the local PCA club's mag via advertising and thinking I'll return the favor with getting service there. If good, any SA I should ask for?

- Any downside to using Sport or Sport+ all the time? Harder on the car? Same q with the exhaust loud button?

- I have the base radio w/o XM. Is there some service I need to sign up for in order for Nav to get traffic updates?

thanks.... might be back with more later!

=Don't waste your money on an intake system, you won't notice much improvement in performance.

- What about filters? K&N style... any benefit, if only a bit more engine music?
=See above

- How long let warm up in morning? Once RPM settles in? Or once needle moves on the water temp? Or just go, and keep it under 4k until oil up to temp?
= I drive it once the RPM settles down, keep it under 3K until oil/engine temp are fully warmed up.

- Does our spoiler deploy at a certain speed automatically a la 993?
=Yes, above 75mph and comes back down at 35mph, I believe.

- Any downside to using Sport or Sport+ all the time? Harder on the car? Same q with the exhaust loud button?
=I drive it in Sport + all the time; love the rev match and the noise

I'm not a fan of those "cold air intakes" especially the cone filters; the OEM
system is a 'closed' system, cold air is inducted from the decklid into the
airbox, so you get some 'forced air' *and* more importantly no warm engine
air is able to be inducted (which is not the case with the cone system IMO)

The end result (IMO) is you get hotter, dirty air recycled into your engine...
neither of those things are good for performance or longevity/reliability

now ... I actually run the BMC filter on my GT3, its a little more free flowing
and you do notice a difference in induction noise, but I doubt there is any
significant change in performance.

I have some BMCs for my GTS but I have not installed them (yet)

I just use Waze (and I have the Nav).

I've been told by a reputable tuning shop that there's no benefit in adding an intake to a GTS as that side of things is already pretty much optimise. Larry, let us know when you install the BMC on yours! A mod I am enjoying is the Fabspeed sport headers - bit more noise and response but still civilised.

I too wait for the needle to settle then drive at under 3k until oil is up to temp. I also wait for the car to be warm before using sport or sport +, but no idea if it does any good.

Not sure about the spoiler as I have a duck.

And yeah, Waze. Waze seems so far to be a game-changer.

I agree on the air filters - stay stock or go BMC. As For Circle service, I have had decent service there and will be taking my new 991 there - just picked it up from them two weeks ago. Previously, I had my Cayenne and Cayman serviced by them.

Yeah the X51 is pretty much intake mods, sticking some cone filters to suck warm and dirty engine air in won't make much of a positive change

will do on the BMC's probably week after xmas

Cool - let us know. I had BMC on my old Boxster and it felt like a nice little change.

If you can do a before/after video, you should hear an "improvement" in the
engine note ... for what its worth!

I'll probably DIY it ... maybe the week between xmas and new year

Are BMC's oiled filters? Just entails opening the rear filter boxes while bumper is off and putting them in correct?
