Default Dealer delivery prep - decline? or will I need paint correction either way?

I'm planning on getting a detailer to do a proper paint correction + cquartz on my car.

I'm going to take delivery and drive the car a bit before I do that, though.

Am I doing myself any favors by now having the dealer prep the car, assuming they will likely add more swirls? Or will those swirls be de minimis and will likely add no more work required during paint correction that I plan on doing anyway?

Curious what everyone's experience is.

Ask your detailer. But, he'll want it still in the wrapper. Less work for him.

Wouldn't let a dealer touch it. Instructing mine not to even touch the car when it comes in besides non-cosmetic prep.

The thought being the will swirl the paint much worse than the imperfections it comes with at the factory?

IMHO the dealer can only cause harm as detailing is a value add, not a forte.

My dealer used a chemical cleanser on the wheels and destroyed the center locks on a brand new car. They replaced them on the spot but still soured the delivery experience. Lesson learned.

Yikes..

So what do I have the dealer do? Just prep the interior and remove all the shipping bits. I'm going to be driving it around the northeast / midwest in December.. it could get nasty .

I'm sad to see everyone has bad dealers.

If you don't trust your dealer I would at least allow them to unwrap the car in your presence to inspect for dents and other physical damage..... then you can take it to your detailer.

Article written by the detailer I use (as does LexVan). After reading this, I'd NEVER let a dealer touch any of my cars. Even when I bought my 991 C2S used, it didn't look bad but instructed them to not touch it for my delivery. Leave as is! I had it corrected on my own.

Most of the paint damage from the dealership is during the protective wrap removal. They are too aggressive with the removal of the wrap residue.

If you plan on driving it during the December winter month, don't worry it. Your detailer can just deal with all the effects. He'll know what to do.

Maybe an additional stage of paint correction on a few additional panels. Maybe adds a few hundred dollars to the overall bill.

fansonly, listen to me... do not let the dealer do the the PDI on the exterior of your car. This is my 3rd Porsche and on to the first two I took in to my detailer afterwards. Lots of paint correction from the dealers PDI. On my most recent Porsche I took delivery of it plastic still on it. Shipping dirt still all over it and took it straight to my detailer for proper prep and nano-coating. My dealer thought it was so weird to give me my car that way, all dirty with the plastic still on it, but the car is perfect now. See pics below.

How I picked it up.

After my detailer prepped and nano-coated it.

So let the detail prep the exterior pant anyway?

Yes. If you're going to drive it right away and not take directly to your detailer. Tell the dealership to only remove the wrap. No washing or further touching.

How long are you going to drive it before bringing to detailer?
