The car locked with indicator showing 2th gear flashing, Transm.fault Poss. no R gear Drive on poss. also Fault engine control Possible to drive on. Car was towed to dealer and after 3 days of deliberation and failed attempts to repair by flashes they replaced the entire unit. Total downtime of 1 week, while I was in Stuttgart (strange timing). 0 cost to me other than the inconvenience. Macan loaner. The new unit is so much better in many ways. PDK went from the least liked to the best liked feature of the car. I attempted to trade (fail) for a manual vehicle 991 while the car was down but now I'm happy with my beautiful ride.

I was told it was normal, so I didn't do anything about it. Essentially no change. Doesn't bother me as much now that i believe it to be essentially expected. It is interesting some people hear it and some hear nothing, despite being the same car/transmission.

I bought a CPO 2014 CS2 with 5,200 miles on it just a few days ago, and I'm experiencing exactly the same problem that you describe in your post.

Any info/advice appreciated.

Thanks.

I had the same issue on my past 991 and always from the dealer received the same crap, "normal because pdk it's also a manual tranny" but on my current 991 I don't get any sounds

I'm curious how you know this hard downshift into first is normal. My car is doing it in full auto mode, so the computer is downshifting into first during normal driving. Sometimes it's so hard you can hear engine lash.

my 991.1S with 25K miles is doing the same. Taking it in to have it checked but expecting the usual "its normal" response.

it does it more when I am in "Sport mode", using manual paddles but letting the car's computer downshift to 1st before coming to stop ..

I just purchased my 2016 991.1 C2 PDK CPO with 36k mi on it and it's experiencing the same thing so I'm guessing this is 'a thing' with this many people listing the same experience

2018 C2S PDK. Purchased with 9k miles, currently at 14k miles. Has had a "thunk" going into first since I acquired it when on auto. Sometimes with a very subtle rattle. I always figured it was just the clutch disengaging, and since there's such a small drivetrain load the sensation if more perceivable going into first gear. Maybe I'll ask at next service, but as mentioned by others SA will probably say its normal operation.

I have an ‘18 C2S PDK with 5,200 miles on it and it does the same thing. My ‘14 981 BS PDK with 28,000 miles, did the same thing. Anyway my 991.2 is under CPO warranty starting this June until 2027.
BTW, I absolutely love the PDK, genius transmission.

2018 C2 with 16000 miles. Had that sound before the PDK was replaced and has the same slightly perceptible clunk with a brand new PDK. SA said it was normal. Mechanic took me for a ride in a 2016 S and the clunk was heard in that car also. Guess its normal?

I think it’s normal. And anyone who’s had a blown box may think that was a progressive cause.
